Hmm...again, I think this was just great marketing by Nintendo. I think it is both the fault of dumb consumers and good marketers.

I enjoy simple games like Bomberman or Tetris, while you can argue for Tetris, Bomberman is pretty casual for me.

They can be for hardcore gamers, and I'm sure most hardcore gamers have played Tetris and Bomberman. Tetris is still an arcade game, and while some people may invest a life's worth of time in the game, I think most people enjoy casually playing it as a diversion from more serious games. But any game can technically appeal to a hardcore gamer.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?
Fuuuuuck. Shut uuuuuuup.
THERE ARE NO SIDES HERE.
Some of us are satisfied with the Wii, some of us are dissatisfied with it.
There's no winnable argument, just looking like a jackass because you're trying to present evidence contrary to somebody's personal opinion about a GAMING MACHINE.
Maybe some people are cool with having a system you only play one game on, maybe some people aren't. Who cares.
I made this thread because I was bummed out that the Wii didn't live up to my personal expectations. There's nothing to prove or disprove.
I mean, stating your opinion is cool. But why are there multi paragraph arguments?
Does anybody need to spend this much time defending a game company that doesn't need your defense? Does anybody need to take an extensive amount of time trying to defame it?

Wouldn't that be sides than? Or am I missing the definition.

Are debates winnable?
Have you ever had a debate with someone, laid out your points precisely. They did the exact same, then both parties had a moment of clarity where they agreed on a simple solution?
If you have please enlighten me.

Well, I assume you cared enough to make this thread.
And you did ask for opinions in the topic title...

I can prove that your own personal expectations are so very very wrong.
Okay, I just wanted to be a dick with this post so eh.

Long thread with lots to reply to.
Short answer to topic's question?
No, I am not disappointed.

Not me. I'm perfectly ok with only having games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit.
In fact, in the end, that's all I want more of. I can't wait for Wii Sports 2, and it's mind-boggling to me that another developer besides Nintendo hasn't gotten it into their thick heads that a better version of Wii Sports would sell tons. Don't any of them realize that the largest reason by far that everyone is still buying the Wii in droves is so they can play Wii Sports?
The other thing I love about the Wii is the short and sweet $15 games that come out on WiiWare.
Anyway, I guess I am officially no longer a "hardcore" gamer. It's not that I don't like other games anymore. I would love to have more time and delve more into the PC and 360 games that I know I would like, but my time is reserved for many other things now.
Bottom Line -- Nintendo is doing everything I want this generation -- i.e. short, sweet, and satisfying games that I can pick up and play and leave.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?
I have 2 words...and a number in roman numerals to say.......
"Street Fighter IV"
My Wii has been off since mario kart . It is good for enternainment when you have non hardcore gaming friends around, and it does bring people together in that sense. Wii sport can be pretty fun actually.
The only games on this I liked were Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy (to date one of my fave games) , Zelda TP, Wii fit. I'm sure there are more games too.
All I have been playing is SFIV. I have both versions on x360 and ps3. The arcade stick and all. CViper FTW

You say there's no sides, but then you present a binary situation? Hahaha. I think what everybody is arguing about is that there's varying degrees between "satisfied" and "dissatisfied." Just take a look at the first page where people are stating specifically what the Wii can't do technology wise.
I honestly think there's nothing to argue about, either. My argument is that people aren't opening their eyes to the awesome games available on it and just basing their opinion on a smaller fraction of the games that they've played. Specifically, Paper Mario on the Virtual Console is an awesome game that can be had for $10. As well, Mario RPG is only $8. In terms of Wii games, Excite Truck, Elebits, RE:4 Wii Edition, and Ghost Squad are all overlooked games that can be had for really cheap.
But this is where the Wii downfalls - no downloadable demos. I can get a good idea of everything available on the 360 by downloading specific demos. However, there's no way I can base my opinion on something I haven't played on the Wii. And it's unrealistic to assume people will have a lot of Wii games.
I think this is the root of the problem in this thread. Specific people have only played specific games. And they base their opinions solely on those experiences.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?
Yes it's been sitting in my room collecting dust. Why?
Because I'm poor! I'm a college student, and yes, even regardless of the fact that I'm not Earl and I pass by a GameStop on my way home that subsequently leaves me broke, I haven't really seen much to wow me that isn't either ported to the 360 or PS3, or anything on the Wii in general.
Does that mean I can vouch for the 360 or PS3 being better consoles?
Oh come on now. Are you serious? Sony's downhill plunge has gotten from bad to worse, only to slowly redeem itself this quarter with Flower and Killzone 2, and then it's a bunch of no name titles that I have no interest in because they've really done nothing to bring anything new to the table.
Xbox 360. Street Figher IV. Hmmm. Good? Sure I guess, I have yet to play it. I have school, work, and bills. Dead Space? Not exclusive, but yes fun. Is it coming to the Wii? Yes. Is it coming to the Wii with the same gameplay? No. Does that matter? Of course not. If EA Redwood is considering to make the jump to an on rails light gun shooter on the Wii, then I'm sure there is something they can do to make it enjoyable in it's own right.
It's not how many IPs you make. It's if they're genuine ideas with decent gameplay and they are innovative and fun. I could take a handful of the FPS games that I have taken a genuine interest in because most just take the good old, "shoot everything in your fucking way" path with your standard guns and grenades.
The Wii has it's own market. And while Nintendo is about making money, not all of it is EXTREMELY bad. They're just taking the wrong turn and trying to focus EVERYTHING towards the family. I think Sega is trying to branch away from that a little bit, especially with HotD: Overkill, which takes the fun and hilarity of grindhouse films and puts it in your hands with the same addictive gameplay that makes you shove quarters into arcade machines.
I will admit, the Wii is coming around slowly. I personally think that for some time it's been in much of a slump, but I also attribute that to my lack of time or money to play most of the stuff that they're released in the last year (names Wario Land: Shake It! and Boom Blox among others). It's only successful because the money shows people still want it, and they keep selling more games with Wii at the title and more plastic than I actually care to own. But if Nintendo can show that they can handle some generous third party support, and still make it on top with the IPs that they develop as a first-party, then that shows at LEAST that they know they're doing something right in making quality when it does come around.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?
Ah yes, what magus says. I'm also poor. I don't have the money anymore to buy a new game every month. But if I wanted to, there would be lots of good Wii games. Games I'd like to play one day:
Okami
Boom Blox
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Zack & Wiki
Mario Kart Wii
Mario Strikers Charged
Wario Land: Shake It!
Endless Ocean
Excite Truck
All decent to very good games. And most of them very unique. I just don't have the money/time.

I want Okami so bad. I have almost bought it countless times. Stupid not being able to blow money on games whenever I want.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?
Where do we go from here....
That's like the new theme of late in my mind. I expect next gen of conoles for Microsoft/Sony to feature more PC features, bigger graphics, crap like that.....but where will Nintendo go.
It's like a mystery, usually with names like "dolphin!" woo.

I guess Nintendo will combine their motion sensing technology with better graphics. Probably current-gen graphics (cheap to produce).
