Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?

The whole motion sensor thing has proven to be just as gimmicky as I thought it would be pre-launch. The only time I've had fun using motion controls in a game is with Wii Sports. I've been underwhelmed by pretty much every game that has motion controls (with the exception of Galaxy).

And there has been an incredible lack of games for this system that I'd be even slightly interested in playing.

The only games I really play on it are Smash Bros and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, both of which allow you to use gamecube controllers.

So essentially what I have is a system dedicated to the sole purpose of playing Smash.

I know BAB will argue with me extensively in a moment but this is just how I feel.

This is how I have been feeling as of late. I haven't booted up my wii in ages.

I'll stand in for BAB for a moment. While I agree that I think that the Wii hasn't really put out much content lately compared to the 360 or even, gasp, the PS3, as someone who doesn't play every day for hours, I still have TONS of games that I have yet to play. Plenty of content to go into. I still haven't gotten to Metroid, Fire Emblem, Boom Blox, House of the Dead, Resident Evil Wii, BWii, No More Heroes, etc, etc...

I think right now there is a major lull that Nintendo and its third party needs to start getting on, however, given the content I haven't even tried out, I'm sure most of you have already played it. The system has produced much content to blow through, just not at a rate for a hobbyest game player.

Mad World or whatever its called coming out soon.

i dont think so. i got just what i expected out of it.

but then again, i learned from n64 and gamecube, i didnt expect to use it for much more than the occasional great nintendo game.

I always thought the motion sensor was a gimmick, and I am unimpressed with the overall feel of the system aswell.

Also, the only games I play for my wii, let alone own are radiant dawn and smash.

There aren't any good games that utilize the motion sensor bar in a way that not only makes it new, but fun.

There's about 20 great games on it, but past that, there's nothing much. VC is also really good depending on what you like. I like to think of the Wii as a tribute to the past and the future but not dedicated as one specific thing.

I still vastly prefer the Gamecube in every way. Which is funny, because I think Brawl, Galaxy, and Kart are all superior versions of their predecessors.

I've discussed this several times with BaB and I know he disagrees with me. But I've played through most of the killer apps, and there's not much on the horizon. Nintendo seems to assume that if they're gonna make a good platformer, they have to make a new Mario game. Or if they're gonna make a good adventure game, they have to make a new Zelda game. On the other hand, everybody always bitches about getting the franchises rehashed over and over again. I would love to see Nintendo start making new unique platforming and adventure games.

Nintendo needs to seriously reevaluate their development planning system. They're wasting their creative ability on disappointing games. They continue to focus on quick-play titles that are fun in the short term, but do not leave a lasting impression and do not satisfy in the same way a game where time investment offers a sense of accomplishment.

Three mentions and I haven't even appeared in the thread.

And you know what... I won't comment.

When I first heard of the Wii, saw (and later played) Wii Sports, I had high hopes.
It has some very fun games, some of which control better thanks to the motion controls (pointer mostly). But there just aren't enough games. And not enough good motion control.

I guess the MotionPlus will improve some stuff. I really really really hope they present a M+powered Zelda next Eł. They need that. It could be so good.

Hadn't Nintendo made an announcement some time ago saying that they wanted games to be more pick-up-and-play, shorter, less-involving? That's the way they see the users these days. They truly are aiming for the casual gamer..

I played House of the Dead Wii yesterday and am willing to admit that it was an example of fun use of wii motion controls. Also I had forgotten about Boom Blox.

But I stand by my point aside from those two exceptions.

Re: Does anyone else feel that the Wii has been a terrible disappointment?

Well, I both agree and disagree, to an extent. There's some great games on the system, that being said, I think most developers havent really made very good use of the motion controls, or spent enough time implementing them into their games, therefore the result come out sloppy and just not feeling right. Of course there are exceptions, most notably with Nintendo's own titles. That being said, its kinda more of the same as past generations...a few GREAT games that rival anything on any other console, but third party stuff, in general, is lacking.

That all being said my mom just got Wii Fit and ive actually been enjoying it quite a bit so far even though I dont really need to lose any weight. Its amazingly user friendly, my mom can just pick up and play it and understand everything and thats a real accomplishment for someone who cant check her email without my help. She is terrible with technology.

That being said that being said that being said

That being said.

That being said.

That's pretty much the only reason I bought the Wii. And as it stands, I was sorely disappointed with Brawl.

Mario Galaxy was really cool and fun. I never finished it during the time I rented it. Unfortunately, I never found the drive to go back and rent it again so I could complete it.

I played Rock Band 2 for about a week and lost the gusto to play that also.

Since it's inception, I've owned 3 Wiis and sold 2 of them. The third one currently sits and collects dust.

In it's defense, there's nothing that draws me to the the PS3 or Xbox 360 either.

I can't decide if this is just a lackluster generation for games or whether I'm just truly outgrowing the hobby.
