hey...is that like a game where you fly around in an airplane type of thingy, and it's a top view...and you shoot and collect power ups?

if someone said this, sorry...too lazy to ready today




if it is, does anyone know of any good games like that for download or anything like that for PC?

No offense Brian, but Ikaruga is nothing like Galaga. Except for maybe there's a spaceship and **** to shoot at....

It plays a lot like Radiant Silvergun for Saturn from what I hear. You get "combo" points for getting close to enemies and you have weapons that suck in enemy bullets and then unload them on the enemies.

Seeing I have no Cube anymore I may just go ahead and try my damndest to track down the DC version once it lurks onto D-Direct. Is the Cube version going to be a straight port or will it have some extra stuff?

That's where I was making my comparison. It's a top-down shooter where you fly a space ship and shoot things. Of course it's more advanced than that, but it's good enough to explain what kind of game it is.

The more I think about it, the less logic I see in Treasure porting it to Gamecube. I mean, I would think it would have a better shot at sales on a system were fans of old shooters typically are like, say, PS2.

I can see a DC version. Its a Naomi game and there are enough weird DC import freaks, believe me I've met enough of them and am one myself (well, WAS), that'll just HAVE to have if for the rarity value potential. But, a system drowning in high quality big-selling first party stuff? I mean the more I've seen Japanese and American sales charts the less I can see Treasure selling no more than they could on DC. All the Dengeki Console charts show is that GC owners like buy games with the words "Mario," "Animal," "Crossing," "Leader," "Melee," and "Monkey." Monkeyball and Resident Evil are the only 2 third party games that have managed to stick in the charts for more than a week or two there.

And here it looks about as bleak. I don't see a lot of the same people that bought RE and Wrestlemania X8 and ports of Midway and EA sports games jumping at an old-school shooter.

I mean, I don't want to sound like a jerk or something, but Gamecube skews pretty young right now and I don't see a lot of youse guys jumping head over heels for it. And I don't see anyone my age owning a Gamecube buying it. Mostly because they'll go ahead and get the DC version. Or a burn of the DC version.....

I could also feasibly see Treasue making more money porting it to Xbox. Granted Xbox market penatration is like NOTHING in Japan, but the Xbox games that have been selling over there involves a lot of **** blowing up. Shikigami no Shiro, a Taito Arcade shooter that's a lot more archaic than Ikaruga, is the sixth biggest selling game on the system. Its sold something like 25,000 units. Which is about what I can see the GC version selling. Murakumo, when you really look at it, is just a 2-D shooter except it has a third axis and giant ****ing robots. And its still selling pretty well last I checked. Plus Xbox is a lot more like a DC than a Gamecube. I'd think it would take a couple more days than a DC port to compile.

Of course, in the end, I could be entirely wrong. Sin and Punishment sold super amazing well- 800,000 or something. And it IS Treasure. As recent as S and P they still had the clout to were they could sell **** in a box. Of course that didn't work to well for Stretch Panic..... and Sin and Punishment is a bit more accessible than Ikaruga is for a younger audience.

I don't know... guess I'll just wait for Brian to get on his soapbox.

First of all, in defense of Gamecube, it doesn't have a wide variety of titles at the moment, but it's not impossible for a company to be willing to change that. PS2 has tons of consoles avaliable and gets tons of games, Microsoft has bought most of their support, and Nintendo is recovering from ****ty 3rd party support, and an industry now doubting Nintendo's consoles. Nintendo is getting 3rd party support, but it's more or less throw a few games on, see if they sell before giving it any real support. And it's still the first year, only the beginning. You never know.

On the other hand, Infogrames is porting the title, so it might be their decision more than Treasures. And porting it to Xbox wouldn't be the best move, considering the number of systems sold in Japan. It's right around the number of DCs sold though, but I can't say releasing it on DC was done for sales reasons. They don't seem to expect it to sell, as was shown by the D-Direct stuff. I don't think they are releasing this to make lots of money.

But with PS2, yes, if they were looking for sales that would be the way to go. Although it just may be my weird mind, but I don't see the American PS2 audience jumping over the game either. Probably just me. But IGN had something about it on PS2, like it was running on their arcade hardware or something. It might still be a possibility.

The young gamers might not jump over it, but you never know. It's the old gamers who played games like this when they were young, maybe you can get the new younger gamers to enjoy the quality of 2D shooters.
