National Wrestling Alliance. It is a governing body which links many local territories across the country.
Its roots trace back to Frank Gotch at the turn of the century, and some even trace it as far back as Abrham Lincoln who was a professional wrestler of sorts.
Its heyday began in the 1950's with the emergence of television and was the largest organization until the WWF went national in the early eghties.
The NWA has persevered through many lean years, but unliike what many people think, it survived the Ted Turner purchase from Crockett Promotions, who ran the only national NWA associated territory at the time.
