I have that problem in some First Person Shooters...you can easily combat that problem by using the mouse's scroll wheel. I do most of my weapon switching in TF2 with the scroll wheel. But, I also like having the row of 9 hotkeys on my keyboard, an advantage no controller will ever be able to top. It comes in handy in games like Serious Sam where you have 7 or 8 different guns and you need to constantly use all of them.

Team Fortress keeps the weapon situation simple...you have your tier one weapon, when that runs out of ammo you can use your shotgun, and when that runs out of ammo you can melee. Of course, usually I don't run out of ammo, I just run out of a clip. But that's why you have a shotgun.

I thought the plan was always to wait for content because there is a long, drawn out certification process on the 360 so it wouldn't make sense to do it for every update.

i would look for vavle to try and bring the update to 360 as 1 big update, rather then one at a time like they are for PC, (which does bring some problems, but has to be done really)

but valve is strongly against charging money for the downloads they think should be free.

and they're a PC company and this is a PC game, they damn well better support the PC first and foremost.

now with this update, a new gametype with new levels... This brings up 1 question...
Will they bring back ENGBAT from the original TF with the Engy update!?!?!?

omg i will go nuts if they do, that was soooo much fun back in the day.
Here's Hoping!

BTW, if a controller is the only thing stopping you from getting the PC version... Why wouldnt you just get the PC version and plug a 360 controller into the PC and use it? works exactly the same. *shrug*

I used to have that problem, since I'm primarily a console gamer, but after a few days of playing I got down the key positions by instinct. I remapped some of the keys a little, and I think I play differently than most people. I use A,S,W,D to move, but then I have my primary weapon on Q, secondary on E, and melee on F. If I'm a spy or Engi then I just use 4 and 5 for the other things, since you don't need those as much in the heat of combat. I just couldn't get used to the "switch to last weapon" thing most people use, I want to be able to jump to the exact thing I need exactly when I want.

And about plugging your controller in...not a bad idea except you wouldn't have fun because no matter how good you are with a controller you're always going to get pwned by the people using a mouse.

yes you would get slaughtered, but at least you'd be playing with the big boys then.

E D S F to move FTW! then a switches to secondary weapon, g switches to main weapon, most others are done by mouse, jump, fire, secondary fire, special weapon, disguise.

oh, i bound the engys build keys and destroy keys so i dont have to switch to the build menu at all., same with spys disguise

Considering the amount of time I spend as an Engi, you would think I would have bound the main keys by now. I'm really apathetic, and the "1," "2," and "3" keys are right above the "W" so it's not hard to access my 3 main weapons.

In regard to my running out of ammo comment...typically this is big when you are a soldier. You get 4 shots with your rocket, plus 6 shotgun shots, plus your shovel. That is more than enough to kill anyone in a 1 vs. 1 situation (except for maybe a Heavy). Typically, if I squeeze off 4 rockets and my opponent is still alive, I toggle to shotgun and attempt to finish them off.

This usually works pretty well...you won't believe the amount of people who sit there reloading rather than pulling out their shotgun while I take easy shots at them.

Lately, I've been getting in the habit of firing 3 rockets at my opponent, and then using my shotgun. This seems to be slightly more tactical against experienced players because they assume I'm out of rockets. Then they do something stupid like run at me and I pull out rocket number 4 and bam!

I really really hate Pyros now, especially the ones with the flare gun. I can't wait for the Scout/Soldier/Sniper updates.

PC elitism is sooooooooooo annoying.

But seriously, we pretty much obliterate any team we play. It's getting kind of boring.

not really elitism, there are just a couple game types that are just all around BETTER in every way on PC. just the way it is.

everything else better to have a console for.

now that will probably change if the console makers start noticing some things. but as of right now thats that. which PS3 has already started the process (mods/control options)

i played some of TF2 on 360 at a friends couple weeks ago. and i dont see how people even stand it. and this is my favorite game we're talking. but right away you get non stop kids screaming and yelling into thier mic, singing, being just as annoying as possible. i unplug the mic. and the stupid thing comes out the TV speakers insted, ARGH!!!

then 8vs8? wow, thats an empty server on the PC version. i normally play 16 vs 16.

then game looks better, runs smoother, more custamizable, free updates...

and you dont think the pc players have a right to call it better? :P

but yea, from what i've played on the console version. any team that can even REMOTELY work as a team will slaughter any other team on the console... because how you get any random team to work together on the console is beyond me.

PC online community is just so much more mature.

I corrected your post in the quote so you'd have normal human spacing

The annoying kids are what make it fun. Whenever they start acting lke the kids they are, I berate them and repeat everything they say in a, to be politically incorrect, "full retard" voice. They end up leaving and we all laugh and laugh and laaauuugghhhhh....

ahhh...

good times...

Plus, I think console adds more challenge. I can see how Sniper would be MUCH easier to use on mouse/keyboard set-up. On a console, you have to be really good to make yourself useful

Yea, this argument has been brought up before here, i just don't agree with it, i dont believe crippling the controls should be what determines the difficulty of something. Controls shouldn't add the challenge, the opposing players should.

but on that point, yes its easier to quickly point and shoot with a sniper using a mouse, however, its much easier for all the other characters to move around, dodge those shots and kill the sniper back.
So honestly it would even that out.

Now, a mouse sniper in the land of all controller users, yikes. but then again, sentries seem cheap on the console.

This is just such a nonsensical discussion, which really should result in: no one fucking cares.

Some people enjoy the game on the console, while others enjoy it more on the PC. Who fucking cares?
