Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update

We are about a week away, gentlemen, (PC gamers anyway) and this update sounds amazing:

We thought the Pyro pack was the biggest we'd be doing for a while, due to the large changes to the Pyro, but the Heavy update has turned out to be even bigger. In addition to the three unlockable weapons and thirty-five achievements for the Heavy, we've got a new game mode with five new arenas for it, a new Payload map focusing on more open spaces than Goldrush, and another popular community-made map. Throughout the rest of the week we'll be giving you the details on all this, and if all goes well, you'll have your hands on it shortly afterwards.

The community-made map included in the Heavy update is cp_steel, by Jamie 'Fishbus' Manson. After the Pyro update we received a lot of email telling us how wrong we were in our choices, and cp_steel was an easy next choice due to the way it dominated the suggestions. If you're firing up your email right now to tell us that we never get anything right, please include suggestions of what map(s) we should be looking at next.

We'll be updating A Heavy Update site with more info daily. Stay tuned!

7 new maps, another update for one of the classes...and all for free. Man, online gaming on the PC totally rocks, I would hate to have the console version of TF2.

So does this mean everyone will be playing as a heavy for the next few weeks? Because I might have to try to beat my previous head shot record now.

Actually, the console version of TF2 is awesome. Because we have lots of friends. :)

Touché ;)

One day I too will have these "friends" and maybe they will come in lots.

They just updated the Heavy site with the names of all the new achievements and the Heavy's first unlock weapon: the K.G.B.

Boxing gloves. :)

The Heavy needs a timed speed boost or something, like cloak for the Spy.

Any chance of updates like this coming for the console? And NO, this post is not an invitation to try and get me to get the PC version...

There are 2 others if im not mistaken. In addition to a crap load of levels too. All of which are PC exclusive.

I think thats kind of crap. There is a very rabid console following out there and for Valve to just ignore them is pretty absurd. I'd PAY for downloadable content that PC gamers get for free. And its not that I have anything against PC games, in fact I am historically a PC gamer before console because of my love of strategy, but I just like FPS on console more.

Don't ignore me because of that preference.

It's probably an issue between Valve and Microsoft as to how to deliver the content.

Bond is probably 100% right. I'm not sure how Microsoft handles massive updates like the ones that Valve are doing.

I think Valve is giving love to all the PC gamers who have waited 10+ years for a Team Fortress sequel. Team Fortress was a Quake mod...Quake...that was like eons ago. Team Fortress Classic was pretty awesome, but after playing Team Fortress 2 I can't even play TFC without cringing.

Anyway, maybe in some distant future online gaming on consoles will be more third party friendly.

It is sooo tempting to start playing TF2 again.... but I'm not going to.

I understand your sentiments (don't understand how you can enjoy an FPS on a console more though :P). I do think Valve has stated that they plan to bring all of the updates to the 360 version, it just doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. I'm not sure about the differences between how the PC version is coded and how the 360 version is coded, either, I have no idea how much work it is to translate those updates over to the Xbox.

I've gotten that reaction a lot, and I suppose my reasoning is that console FPS's tend to be much more tactile. You feel the controller in your hand, it runbles and kicks. I also tend to be fumble fingers with a keyboard, and its frustrating to die because you meant to bring up a mini-gun, but hit machete instead...
