Oh nevermind... I thought that picture labeled E3 2006 was the Gamecube version...
Didn't pay as much attention to E3 this year as I usually do

What happened to the good old days when a character's weapon hand would change depending on which direction he was facing? I still remember MegaMan's blaster alternating between his right and left. That always bothered me.

When people would ask me that, I'd just say "He's ****ing Megaman. He can do as he pleases."

Well its been confirmed now.

I wonder if there is a mirror mode (normal mode) once you beat the game?

That didnt REALLY clear anything up. Is there a seperate mirror mode in the Wii version only, or both versions? Or when he says "mirror mode" is he simply referring to the Wii version being a mirror of the gamecube version. It really only presents more questions.

I'll try to clear it up.

GameCube version is the standard Zelda game...how it was originally put together.

Link is left handed. Most people are right handed. Rather than switch Link's model around (because I'm assuming it would cause too many problems with cut scene continuity and how he interacts with environment and enemies) to make him right handed for the gesture movements they reversed the entire game.

So there is no "mirror mode." Just that the GameCube and Wii versions will be mirrored versions of each other. Left is right and right is left.

I just can't make any sense out of this. You know japanophiles complained for years about manga because mirroring it in the process of translation lost the artist's intent? This is the same ****ing thing.

It just pisses me off.

So... Maybe I'll just wait for the GCN version... I mean, I didn't really care that the GCN version was delayed, because I was going to get the Wii version as well... I didn't really care about the different controls..

But, now that we know that the Wii version has actually been switched from what it was originally designed as, I think I'm going to play the intended version first.. Even if that means waiting a few weeks...

The Wii can wait...

The Wii version is now ruined for me. I can imagine it now. I'll be entering a new sweeping landscape for the first time, and the whole time instead of being awestruck by the beauty, I'll be trying to imagine it all backwards. And then I'll go crosseyed.

And no one likes to be crosseyed.

Mmm hmm... sarcasm.

Hm, well...I mean I guess its possible that the Wii version might not be quite right because of this. I mean, imagine going through and playing OOT mirrored. Im betting it would be confusing as hell.

Then again, if that version was the only version we knew, and the version that we had been playing since 1998, wouldnt it have worked out just the same?

Well the problem with this arguement is no one will have played the entire Cube version.

So it won't be alien because you've never been through it "normal"

I mean you can stress yourself imaging how the game may be if it wasn't mirrored but why?

I still don't understand why the game was mirrored... or why they even felt Link had to suddenly change an aspect of his character.

Is this some sort of stupid politically-correct move? That is, against any argument that Link's problem solving and combat skills correlate to his left-handedness.

"I don't play games with Lefties because I'm right-handed. I want something I can relate to."

The reason they changed Link's sword hand for the Wii version is because they added sword swinging with the Wiimote, and since you hold the remote with your right hand and use the nunchuku as your shield, it would be very weird if Link was holding his weapons the opposite way in-game. And the reason they just went ahead and mirrored the entire game was because of a lot of inconsistencies with cutscenes and various puzzles.

I think that would make more sense if Link's moements directly correlated with the player's movements, but they don't. Swinging the Wiimote is the exact same as pressing a button. I wouldn't think it'd be that important.

And the problem I have with the mirrored version is that's just not how it was originally designed. The different perspective could throw off something, or create a different interpretation from the player.

I mean, it probably wouldn't be major, but it wouldn't be what the artist originally intended. Example: The art in manga used to be switched so that English speaking readers wouldn't have to flip through the pages "backwards." It makes enough sense, except that words in the art and other similar things were suddenly backwards. That's the kind of thing I'm scared of.

It wouldn't ruin the game, and I do plan to play both version, I'd just rather play the "normal" one first.
