IGN is getting greedy? Isn't that the the apple calling the orange fruity?
Honestly, you're the one getting greedy. You've been going to IGN for years, without paying a penny. They in turn provide you with up-to-date news, and information, free of charge. Now you call them greedy for asking for money. IGN is busting their ass and spending millions to provide you that information, and you call them greedy because you can't get it for free.
Magazine subscriptions cost money. They don't go out and get the information for you for free. They get paid money to provide you with that information. Newspapers are the same way. Television is free (non-cable), only because enough people view it that the networks can make a profit simply by selling air time to companies in the form of commercials. Some channels are more special interest, and they have their own subscription plans to keep in business.
The internet was a booming industry now. Companies used to be able to display ads on their webpage and makes millions almost overnight. That isn't the case anymore, and more sites have begun making their visitors pay for things. IGN is no different, they don't make much money displaying those ads. Honestly, no one clicks them. It's not like a commercial where you actually care to watch it and see the product. Banner ads don't sell products very well, because we can all just scroll past them. Because of this, if you still want to get information and use the services that companies like IGN provide, you're going to have to pay for it, because they have no outside source of income, unlike MSNBC or CNN.
Message boards cost IGN a ton of money. They are constantly having people work to improve them, and if you can't expect them to allow you to use them for free. It also costs them money to go to all these shows, and developers to get you all the information they provide. GT has to pay money to get the forums, then pay for servers to run it on. If we had our own proprietary message board, and programmers working around the clock to improve it, then we would be chargind too. Of course, then you guys would take everything you have for granted, and start threads saying GT sucks.
There's a reason IGN became so popular, people liked them. They liked them because they provide great information. If you don't want to pay for it, that's your choice. If you don't subscribe to TIME magazine, that's also your choice. But if you don't, you won't get the information they provide.
You can't get everything for free, and you never will be able to. If you don't want to pay to be an Insider, then stop crying about it and go get your news elsewhere.
