Default I wish I lived in California

I didn't know this went into law, but now I wish I lived in California, I could make some money.

The technological war comes as Congress considers a federal anti-spam law and California adopts what is widely considered to be the toughest law in the country.

The California law, signed on Tuesday, allows people to sue spammers for $1,000 per unsolicited e-mail and up to $1 million for a spam campaign.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...s_attacks_dc_4

The actual story is about anti-spam sites going down because of Denial of Service attacks, but I saw that and I wish other states and/or Congress would make this a national law. I get aroudn 30-50 spam emails a day and its useless to try to opt out because most of hte time it tells the site that your a live person and they continue sending you ****.

So what's your take? Make it a national law or not?

Also, I made it a public poll because I want to see a few opinions and not just people voting then leaving. And if someone gives a person -rep just because of their choice, then shame to the person.

But then I guess they could do the same thing for Junk Mail (non electronic based).

I would like them sued. I don't ask for it. Email is something I pay for. Therefore sue the bastards......

The law is not needed. There's just too much spam out there, things could get messy.

Ha ha! I'm going to be rich! Perhaps saving up for a G5 won't take so long after all! Now, I need to get a lawyer. This is great!

While I think it could be done better, there does need to be something to stop the spam. While I doubt very many people will actually follow through with sueing, too much trouble for most, it will at least help a little.

If it was a national law, then the spam wouldn't be so messy, now would it

yea but what about companies from outside the country. it can get real messy who says wich set of laws to follow. its aginst the law to sue someone for laws that dont pertain to them.

True but who's saying that ISP's like earthlink and aol and whatnot don't just block those users from foreign countries from sending e-mail ? I mean there is nothing that dictates that they have to allow it espically if all the spam is coming from them because we have outlawed it in the us.
