You seem to have missed a rather important part of my post, so I'll spell it out again for you. And in fact, I'll look up the specific information for you.

Daikatana was in development for over four years. It was originally going to be done in a little over a year and then was delayed for three years.

The development team behind Daikatana was Ion Storm who also did Deus Ex. Their chairman was John Romero who was one of the partners at id Software before leaving. He is the co-creator of Wolfenstein 3D, the Doom games, Heretic, Hexen and Quake. He didn't just specialize in first person shooters. He basically created the genre. Are you seriously going to tell me that this is nothing like Nintendo putting several years of development time into a Zelda game or Rareware putting who knows how many years into a console first person shooter?

Moreover, what are you trying to tell me by saying that it's 6 years instead of 4? Are you going to argue that Daikatana was a rush job or something? Don't be absurd. Apparently, the game needed lots of time and got it. Or, more likely, the programming team couldn't get its act together.

Beyond a certain point, a game just stops benefiting from all the extra time. The rest of the industry moves on, forcing developers to update features in their game or rework the graphics engine.

I didn't go into this much detail last time, but this was all in my previous post. I said the game was in development for a long time. I said the lead programmer had created Doom and Quake (but I forgot he also did Wolfenstein 3D and Heretic). How you managed to interpret my example as a situation in which a company is not working on its specialty is completely beyond me (but not surprising). There are arguments you can make against mine, but yours wasn't one of them.

Honestly, I'm not worried... MS is smart, all they did was give me a reason to buy Xbox 2. For now I'm fine with Halo 2 (and 3?).

At least MS has a great FPS to make up for PD's absence, unlike Nintendo.

Also, I just wanted to point our that PD:0 being released in 2006 is crazy... we are talking about a game that already has had 3 years of development under it's belt, and now getting another 3 years on it... This has to be the longest development cycle in the history of video games.

I think it would be a VERY safe bet that PD:0 will be one of the best and deepest FPSs of all time.

Why do I have the feeling that if Rare was still backing Nintendo and it was still going to take 6 years to finish PD:0, instead of saying it is going to be an incredibly deep and good FPS, you would be mocking them for taking so long?

I'm glad I wasn't one of the people who jumped to buy an Xbox after Rare moved. People who bought an Xbox just because they heard Rare moved are "interesting" to me. The reason I didn't buy an Xbox yet was because I have yet to see a Rare game come out. If a Rare game is good enough to warrant a purchase from me, I will do it. But buying one now is stupid to me.

And on the subject of Rare possibly waiting until 2006 or later. Oh well. Maybe that will give PD:0 more time to get ebtter. Even though its Rare's thing to do, they can't mess it up. Hell, if all they did was remake PD and give it better graphics, better multi, online play, and some more new things here and there, I would buy it. I hope Rare at least does something like that and includes it with PD:0.

on a lighter note. I wish Nintendo would spend 4-6 years on a Zelda game and not 2.

I'm sorry, but how nintendo fans are blowing this out of proportion smacks of a desperate attempt to take a shot at the XBox while the Gamecube continues to flounder and Nintendo continues to struggle to stay a viable console company. I'm saying this and I OWN a Gamecube.

So what if the only reason I get an Xbox is because of Rare. I bought a GameCube mainly for Nintendo games. Thats what I mainly own, along with a few Sega games. I buy a system because of its games, not because of its power. That's why I would buy an Xbox. Because of its games.

Plus, the way its looking right now from Rare, none of the games they show, with the possible exception of Conker, is grabbing me to buy an XBox.

But I'm not... Perfect Dark still sits atop my list of favorite games of all time. Not that I could make such a list, but I'm sure it would be top 3... along side Zelda OoT and WWF No Mercy.

Perfect Dark 0 is in a tie for my #1 most anticipated game coming this generation (if it comes)... I've been saying it sense before Ps2 was even released... cept back then there was no tie. (there also was no Halo)

Nintendo can pour a lot of time into any new series they want, that doesn't mean it will be good, even if it is a platformer... It's like comparing 2 years they put into any ol game to putting 1 year into a mario game.

I think it's much different... Nintendo may be home to the greatest platformer, but that doesn't mean they have never made a bad one. Perfect Dark 0 is an advancement in a franchise, not a whole new idea created from scratch.

People who made the PD series also worked on Timesplitters... we see how big of a killer app that ended up being... not to say it was bad but... it wasn't Perfect Dark.

2) I'm talking about the seeming joy that some Nintendo fans seem to take in the delay of a Rare game. Like its some sort of come-uppance for Microsoft. Thats stupid and THATS defensive and childish.

3) I don't post negative news in other console forums. In fact, I rarely even go there because the mnajority of gaming I do is on the XBox, and a little on the Gamecube. Whenever Nintendo fans post in this section of the forum, its something negative. Keep grasping at straws and let your loyalties deprive you some GREAT GAMES.

Yes, and some opinions are uneducated and BIASED, as many in here have been. To say that the only reason to buy a XBox, is Rare, is uneducated and biased. Deal with it. I had hoped we were passed all of this silliness.

Wrong, Whether a game is great or not, is all a matter of opinion. It's scores it recieves from magazines or websites or what not, are all opinions. If he doesnt like ANY game on xbox, it could very well be that HE JUST DOESNT LIKE ANY OF THE GAMES. I'm not saying that is the case, but just because he says he doesnt like the games doesnt make him biased. IMO, it makes you sound more biased because you say he's a fool for not likeing any of the games your trying so hard to defend.

And yes, people can say theres no great games on GameCube. Its thier opinion, they are allowed. It just means they may have differnet tastes then you.

Ok.... so Nintendo probably forsaw problems with the development of Rare's killer app, so they sold them?

I agree with TheGame on Rare being master in console FPS, but I also think they should have got the game ready for THIS generation.

The only thing I'm trying to defend here is intelligent thought. If some where to make the same comments using Square for Sony or Retro for Nintendo I would have the exact same opinion. See the forest for the trees.
