Well... I've had my PS2 for 2 years now, and not once has it screwed up on me. One of my friends who got a PS2 a few months after me, his PS2 screws up but mine doesn't. I don't know why everyone else has problems with their PS2 and I don't, it's probably just a coincedence (sp).
But, didn't you get a warranty when you bought your system? A lot of stores should offer it.... believe me, especially with the PS2, it's the BEST thing to do. If anything goes wrong you can just get it replaced instantly, no charge.
I can't think of anything else, unless you do what Dylflon's friend's Dad did and scream at them. Don't be afraid to raise your voice, they are payed to take phone calls.

Re: I am really, really pissed off with my PS2
Yes, I got mine fixed for free. I said that it was giving me disc read errors. The Sony rep on the phone was very nice to me, and just took me through some step by step instructions on the PS2's "self check" thing or something. That did not work, so he just asked if I had ever opened up the PS2. I said no, and then he gave me the info to send it to them so they could fix it.
It was free of charge, except for the 10 dollar shipping fee I had to pay. They said it would take 3-4 weeks to get it back.. Hell no! It took them less than one week! I was kind of mad at that because I rented a PS2 on like the 5th day for me to play Madden.. And then I got my PS2 in the mail the next day! hahaha...
And thegame, do you have a network adaptor? Because if you do, whenever you start your PS2 there is like an orange light at the bottom of the PS2 that flickers... yep.

Ok, see, the problem is that I did open my PS2. I didn't mess open it up and mess it up, I opened it and fixed it. So if I tell them I did open it, what should I tell them? I can't lie because the warranty sticker on the back was removed... That means it was expired and removed. So in order to open up my PS2, I had to take out that sticker. So that's proof I opened it. If I tell them I opened it, do you think they'll charge me for it?
PS: I plan to tell them that my PS2 has been giving me many problems even before. I'll say...
"It never played original PS1 games after 3 months of purchase.. (it gave me disk read errors), I wasn't able to play DVD movies, any sort of CD (purple bottomed disk) gave me a disk read error like demo disks, and now my PS2 games don't work. Before they barely worked, but now they always gave me disk read errors. I own about 8 PS2 games and treat the software and hardware perfectly, but I don't understand why my PS2 is doing this. I opened it up to see the problem and blew some of the dust out and closed it back up. The dust wasn't the real problem, but my PS2 is screwed up and won't let me do a thing. It freezes sometimes, it used to take longer to load than other PS2's before when it worked, and it always gave me and still does give me "Disk Read Errors".
Do you think that will work? Should I mention anything else?
