Default Crash Stops Nintendo Piracy

While shopping on ebay, a saw there was this one seller who had many copies of a game and was selling out of Hong Kong. so i emailed them asking if they were legitamate copies or if they were pirated copies. here is what she emailed back:

Quote:
dear adam,
>
>our games are assembled in hong kong (box, manual and cartridge are
>imported from japan) with original chip from nintendo. but it does not have
>the imprint because it is manufactured locally in hong kong.
>
>if you are unsatisfied with your purchase, we can offer you refund on full
>item price (exclude shipping)
>
>thanking you
>kittyshoppers
,
So I send that email in to nintnedo and they said 'hmm.... interesting, WAMMMMMO!!!'

actually they said:

Quote:
Dear Adam:

The information you provided about kittyshoppers indicates that this
seller is offering counterfeit Nintendo titles.

Thank you for your cooperation and best regards,

Nintendo of America Inc.
Anti-Piracy Group.

Hehe... good job! Why don't we all go search sites with ROMs, or people on ebay who sell '100 in 1' games...

Good job. I'd feel great if I did something like this. Slightly off topic - Shouldn't this be in the GBA Forum? You mentioned it was cartridges. When I saw the title and started reading, I thought someone had pirated GC games.

Sweet...Nintendo actually recognized your exsistence. That really cool that you potentially helped catch some bad dudes stealing Nintendo's money.(even though they have millions in the bank)

Crash congrats man!

I don't Download ROM's, not unless something has been writeen as "Public Domian/Abandonware and even thern it's only PC-Related, and I only fileshare music that's NOT on Shelves or I bought the CD of, the exception is two Eminem Songs, which I wanted but not ona whole CD< iof he wants payment I'll pay him for two songs, and I'll double the $1-$2 the RIAA Pays hi8m PER ALBUM.

But anyway, good job! Hong KOng Sweatshops are very misleading, I wound up with a bootlegged Anime CD because I fell for this, luckily, I am still able to buy a legit copy, and now I know what to look for. I also know that a lot of Companies have Factories in Hong KOng Tailand and Mainland China now, and of course, things get stolen from them and bootlegger's use the stolen goods to make knock-offs, I enctly imported a toy from Tailand, and I had to check with soeone else who can ID these things to see if ti was legit, which it was, I've also gotten quite a bit of other Legit Merchandise out of China, but I've seen bootlegs as well, and the easiest way to recognize a Bootleg is to see if it carries a quality seal or logo form the Original Company, I remebr seeing a Bootleg Toy from a Japanese Copmpany that had two surefire "BOOTLEGGER" Nen Signs above it, the first was a mis-colring on one part, and the seocnd was the absence of the Companies logo, just like the absence of Nintendo's Seal of Quality.

However this raises an interesting question, why aren't items from companies like Interact which are UNLISENCED and dont' carry Nitendo's "Seal of Quality" considered bootlegs? Every Store from Wal-Mart to EB has them, and surely if they hd paid Nintendo they would be liscened would they not? If they dind't pay Nintendo, wouldn't they be bootlegs? Oh, and if theya re bootlegs, why hasn't Nintendo tried to shut them down?

Just a curious thought.

Anyway, good eye crash! Here are some surefire ways to tell if something is a bootleg as I've seen a "few" of them in my life:

1. The item doesn't have the Seal of Quality but is "made by Nintendo", this is what crash found god job man!

2. The item has a sticker/label that is unevenly applied and/or no seal fo quality is atached to the sticker (Some people have managed to forge the seal bt slap on sloppy labels)

3. The offending Item is on an "Odd-shaped" gam,e Carteridge that looks differnt than most, a lot of Bootlegged "Tengen" game sfor the NES were n BLACK Cartidges with an "Odd" shape unlike that of Nintewndo adn DID NOT Carry the Nintendo Seal of Quality, this is a famous bootleg job if anyone remebers it and the cartidges are still being resold today.

4. The item requires an adapter/boot disc/mod chip to play, the only Legit boot-disc comes with the "Game boy Player" so that one is good.

5. (GCN Only) the Disc has a colored bottom, espeically BLue, Purple, Silver or Gold. hese are all comon colors for BURNED CD's/DVD's. They obviously aren't legit.

6. (GCN Only) The game does not come in the "Standard" GCN Clamshell Case.

7. (GCN Only) Finally, if a game looks like something is wrong with it, a missing seal fo quality, a shoddy assembly job, or the like, it probably isn't legit, steer clear.

Crash, my guess is you just assited shutting downa major bootlegging operation, god job!

Now if you want to know how I found out those 7 things, I too, have reported eBay auctions with fraudlent Nintendo Items, one being a typical 1 Disc with 100 games deal, this was shutdwn within' the hour, the other one which was easy to spot was a Black Tengen game Cartidge, which, sadly enough is still mistaken as legit, it's not, the GCN stuff I read about to make sure I culd avod bootleggers and anything with the wordfs "Mod CHiop required" usualkly means the item is illegal. I've also seen people selling things like copying devices and other stuff that shouldn't be around, those guys I've reported right away, but I haven't seen many recently, however there are usually ways to avoid bootleg's and Crash was smart to check the Location before buying, I always ask seller's in other countries if their items are the original's and legit, and if they aren't, then I avoid them.

"Thank you for your cooperation and best regards"

That's all they do? Thank you for your cooperation when you've probably saved them thousands of dollars? Lousy Nintendo...

Don't you think that would be a tad ironic? he's trying to stop from Nintendo losing money, yet you think they shoudl give him a free game which would in turn lose them money.

Ah it's great.
