I had 18 stiches in my right thumb when I was eight. I was just looking out the window, and had my hand in the window sill. Well, the window came crashing down, because it was a loose window, but it caught me before I got my whole hand out. Let me put it short, the window chopped off my thumb, but it was still...salvagable, if that's what you want to call it, so they used 18 stitches to put it back on.
