Default NHL Trade Deadline

Well, the deadline is under 24 hours away... And there have been several trades today, and in the past couple of days. This are suspected to get intense in the management world of the NHL, so it will be interesting to see what develops before 3:00pm tomorrow afternoon, which is when the deadline occurs.

Here are the most recent trades. I only posted the teams who were the "winners" of the trades, because there was no point in listing all the teams involved, lol.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Acquisitions : Owen Nolan, Glen Wesley

Gave Up : Alyn McCauley, Brad Boyes, a 2003 first-round draft pick, second-round pick in the 2004 NHL entry draft.

Pheonoix Coytotes

Acquisitions : Brad Ference

Gave Up : Darcy Hordichuk, 2003 second-round draft pick.

Colorado Avalanche

Acquisitions : Bryan Marchment

Gave Up : a third-round and fifth-round draft choice in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Philadelphia Flyers

Acquisitions : Claude Lapointe

Gave Up : a fifth-round draft pick this year

New York Islanders

Acquisitions : Randy Robitaille

Gave Up : fifth round draft pick in this June's draft.

Nashville Predators

Acquisitions : Wade Flaherty

Gave Up : Pascal Trepanier

Otawa Senators

Acquisitions : Rob Ray

Gave Up : Draft Pick

Dallas Stars

Acquisitions : Lyle Odelein, Stu Barnes

Gave Up : Sami Helenius, conditional draft pick, Mike Ryan and a second-round draft pick.

New Jersey Devils

Acquisitions : Grant Marshall and Richard Smehlik

Gave Up : a fourth-round 2003 pick, conditional draft pick

Also.. Most recent talks are about Dougy Gilmour heading from the Montreal Canadians to either the Toronto Maple Leafs or the Dallas Stars.

More news as it happens.

Finally the Leafs make the strongest trade-deadline moves...

We have Owen Nolan, and he wants to play here. He was playing uninspired hockey in San Jose, didn't like it there and was being labelled as 'trade bait' for a long time. Nobody likes that. Before Toronto got him, Don Cherry (hockey guru) asked Nolan if he'd like to come to Toronto. Nolan said "Would I LIKE to?!?" You can tell that he's happy now, too...scoring two goals in his Leafs debut and smiling ear to ear as the fans in Toronto have given him a VERY warm welcoming.

Glen Wesley also solidifies the defense. He'll be in the first or second pair, most likely, unless Quinn wants to spread the talent amongst all 3 pairs. We now have 4 solid d-men (McCabe, Kaberle, Svhela and now Wesley) which will help us a lot in the playoff run and especially the playoffs.

We didn't give up a whole lot, either, for those two players. I liked McCauly for his defensive talent and hard work, though He proved himself last year as a valuable playoff forward. Boyes has the potential to be a great player...and first and second round draft picks are always valuable.

All in all, however, the Leafs look to make a good run for the Cup this year, like they did last year (except this year they may actually be somewhat healthy ). GO LEAFS GO

Yes, Stu. Our defence is going to be much better than last year. Now instead of juggling with only 3 solid defensemen, we have 4.

And... If Leafs can get 1 or 2 more strong forwards... I think we have a great chance in winning the cup this year.

I think Gilmour is now a Dallas Star, and Amonte is now a Flyer, I gotta check some sources though to make sure.

On Nolan: I predicted he would score two goals in his first game as a Leaf right when he was traded to them. Doesn't he just look like he always belonged to the Maple Leafs?

And Joeiss... "If Leafs can get 1 or 2 more strong forwards... I think we have a great chance in winning the cup this year."

They do have a CHANCE, but you have to look at the whole picture. They might not even be the best team in the East in the play-offs, and even if they do make it to the finals, whoever makes it from the West will likely have a better team. Vancouver, Dallas, Colorado, and Detroit would all beat Toronto I'd assume. Dallas has everything Toronto has and more of it. They are just plain stacked, while Colorado got hot at the right time and have all the experience and players to win the Cup again. Detroit hasn't changed much from last year, and Vancouver just kicks ass this year. Nobody can stop Bertuzzi-Morisson-Naslund, and the rest of the team isn't exactly a push-over either.

Either way, I hope the Leafs win the cup assuming the Oilers don't.

Edit- Oh yeah, and with Lumme on the team, I wouldn't be too sure of anything. He's a one-man screw up machine. Every game it seems he coughs up the puck and gives the other team a break-away or some kinda great chance.

I heard the Leafs are still after Aaron Miller

and Nolan does belong in Toronto...he's the type of player that Toronto fans respect the most...he grew up in southern Ontario...it's just the perfect fit.

As for Lumme...if the Leafs can sign one more defenceman, I think he'll be a healthy scratch. Their 6th D-man, I'm guessing, would be Belak because of his toughness and fighting ability (crucial for the rest of the season and to set the tone in the playoffs).

Could you imagine a forechecking line of Roberts - Green - Nolan? Or a scoring line of Mogilny - Sundin - Nolan?

I think the Leafs line-up should be as follows:

Roberts - Sundin - Hoglund <
Mogilny - Antropov - Nolan Tucker - Green - Corson Renberg - Reichel - Domi
Kaberle - Svhela Wesley - McCabe Jackman - Belak
Belfour
the following can sit their asses down:
-Fitzgerald
-Healey
-Berg
-Lumme

Woohoo, Flyers do indeed have Amonte now...All we gave up were a couple of picks and a youngster too....I'm not familiar with Amonte, but the Flyers need a scorer and he and Roenick work GREAT together...hopefully this'll bring some punch to our lineup.

Yeah, Amonte got traded.. I am not sure why Phoenix dealt him, though. I mean, he was the guy who was supposed to sell tickets for the next four years. Oh well.. Good pick up for the Flyers, which is a negative for us Leaf fans.

Leafs v. FLyers would be a tasty first round match-up...but don't worry, the Flyers would lose. See, we have a hard time doing this thing called "scoring" in the "playoffs"....

Wings get Mathieu Schneider

Quote:
NHL.com

The Detroit Red Wings took a huge step toward defending their Stanley Cup crown Tuesday, landing veteran puck-moving defenseman Mathieu Schneider from Los Angeles for two draft picks, forward Sean Avery and defenseman Maxim Kuznetsov.

.
.

Schneider, an underrated defender, will give the Red Wings a second option on the power-play unit after Norris Trophy-winner Nicklas Lidstrom, who has 55 points this season.

Schneider's arrival trumps Colorado's recent acquisition of Bryan Marchment from San Jose in the West, as well as Toronto's recent acquisition of Glen Wesley from Carolina in the East. Richard Smehlik (to New Jersey) and Dmitry Yushkevich (to Philadelphia) are other big names on the blue line to switch teams this month.

But, Detroit paid the heftiest price so far in obtaining Schneider.
i liked Avery. but i think i wanted another D more. so hey, sounds good to me.

Leafs get Phil Hously and Dougy G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hously is such a great defenseman, and this will most likely be his last or second last year in the NHL. This gives us 5 solid defencemen... WOOO!!!!!!! AND DOUGY G!!!!!!! THE PASSION RETURNS, BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now wait a second. People are recieveing compensation in the form of picks in the "entry draft?" WTF? don't tell me the NHL is expanding AGAIN. Nashville, columbus and atlanta don't need teams, the last thing the league needs is for the talent to get watered down even further.
