I beat Prime on my first try actually, though I think most of it was just plain luck then skill. I had to fight Omega Pirate two or three times.
Anyway, just so long as you get the energy from the little energy palls Prime shoots at you, you should be fine. Just don't stay still and be ready to switch guns at any moment.
