Bottom line, you drop the nelt before you leave a promotion. You don't give it back, you don't lose it in a cluster ****. You drop it CLEAN. While I sympathize with Bret and what he went through, I also sympathize with McMahon because at the time he was getting killed by WCW in the ratings and was about to have his top guy leave for WCW without dropping the belt cleanly. That woud have killed the WWF.
Instead, McMahon did what he felt he had to do, and in the proces created the biggest moment in the history of wrestling. This ws the turning point for the WWF.
Emotionally you feel for Bret, but business wise you can't deny that this was the best move McMahon could have made.
