Unhappy Help !!

Well here it is........I have this guy's comp, and he had alot of bad sectors on his Hard drive........so I brought a Western Digital( 30 gig) and replaced his old Hard drive..........however the guy wanted all his infor and programs back on his HD.........so made a copy of his HD on my HD

Then I installed his HD and partitation it ( one extended and one logical drive) then put back all his old stuff on his comp.

Now here is the problem
WHen I click the shut down button..........the monitor shuts off
( before it shuts down the monitor says "It is now save to turn off your comp" keep in mind this is an board) but the comp seems to keep on running.

Here's the specs
1 gig chip
64 mb sdram 133mhz
the 98 OS
on board sound
on board graphics

I reset the bios
I can't find bios updates on the net.
I tried alot of stuff.........can someone help me out?

Oh yeah the next soln is to wipe the drive and reinstall windows and not copy the guy's window's directory onto the new HD

my friend has the same problem...or something like it...when he goes to shut down, nothing turns off, it just sais "It is now safe to turn off your computer", and thats it

i think you could do it from the power options in the control pannel, not sure though, never happened to me.

Well, sometimes, you have to manually shut off hte computer when it shows that screen, even if you have win98 on there, you still might have to do it manually. My dad's comp has to do that. But mine shuts off automatically. Both have 98se. It probably has something to do with a)Bios or b)motherboard (but I doubt it)

I think I remember seeing an option in Bios about "quick shutdown" or something like that. Might want to check it out.

Is the computer ATX form or is it still the old AT computers? I know that on the AT computers you had to manually shut down the PC. On the ATX, they usually have auto shutdown.

Yes, I do that with both my computers. The problem is Windows gets so attached to your computer that it needs to prepare to shut down. It's really nothing big though.

should be somewhere in the bios

just go in and find the power options in the bios and look for something that sounds right.

Thx guys............it is an ATX, that's why I find it so strange that I have to shut it off manually!!! I have 98Se but it still shouldn't do that. I'll check that bios thing Null and get back to you............Thx for the help guys.
