i'm pretty sure that to get the dream shield you have to bring some mystery goo (won by defeating mushrooms) to Merlin and he'll give you the shield......i could be completely wrong, but i think its something like that
and i've yet to beat phantom as well. i've only fought him once and i never really tried my hardest, i just wanted to see wut he was like. just bring **** loads of ether or elixirs and keep the Stop magic on your shortcut list to stop that clock from killing you.
