Yee-hah! I have my "New" Case Fans!!

I got a nice FedEx package from Alineware yesterday, it wasn't a "Normal" FedEx or Alienware "Box", but rather a small Brown-box with some clear "Tape" on it that read "Alienware", I immideatly knew what was inside te box. I got my letter opener, and tore the tape. Inside were two buitfully static-baged "Case Fans", which I had only ordered a week earlier. I opened the Comp with my dad (I needed someone to blame if the fans weren't working y'nkow

) and Instaled the case fans (Ok, I touight him how to install them, since he didn't know WTF a Mounting Braket for a Case Fan was), after I instaled them, I poweered up the comp... SUCESS!!! The PC had 2 "Case Fans" in the rear running, 2 in the front, 1 on the side, plus the "Power Supply" fan, my rig is now cool enough to chill a few Ice-cream Sandwhiches insider if I wanted too, but opfr now, I'll stick to chilling 'chips if ya get my drift.

I must say, this is the firts thing ALIENWARE has done right since I bought the darned PC LAST AUGUST!!! I'm not goign to push my louck though, but I will say this, if you know how to do something, never have a "onsite" tech do the job for you!! I "voided" the warrent afew motnhs ago since they kept botching my repair jobs wehen I snet the machine in for factory repairs and it kept breaking, so after I got some help from another "More experianced" tech/friend/co-worker, we got the PC up and running again a few weeks ago and it's been fine since then, I trust Alienware's quality in terms of parts, I just don't trust te bozo enignieers they higher to build the PC's!!

Now here's what I've leaned from adding case fans:

1. never use Onsite Service, these "techs" follow a book written 40 years ago and can't d a darn thing right.

2 If it looks easy, it probably is, case fans aren't that ahrd to install, ad I xdid the job withut any instructions.

3. If you know what you're doing, you shouldn't pay someone else ecuase you're "Lazy" like I was whern I bought the PC.

4. Just in case spomething goes wrong, have someone with you to "Pass the buck" too, and blame so you don't look like an idiot

Well, I'm happy for you and all, but case fans? That's probably the simplest thing to install in a computer

.

But really, I thought since you go to computer camp and seem to know a lot about computers that installing hardware or even building computers would be second nature to you.

Am I wrong?

It wasn't so much as I *couldn't* do it, as it was I didn't want to do it, because ther Machine "was" under warrent, than I fixed it myself because the warrenty repairs were worthless.

I was going to install them myself, but I felt like keeping my father around for two reasons:

1. I needed someone to blame if there was a problem (the real main reason)

2. I needed to show him how ti install "Case Fans" since he's only upgraded "existing" components, nedver added new ones.

as for pictures, It may sound lame, but I don't have a Digital camera, and you really can't see the "fans" unlewss ou get right on top of the vents that cover them, plus they're standad Cheiftec Fans, so they aren't to much to look at (it's not like they're neon green or anything interesting), I will probably take somem more pics of the PC, in its "new" upgraded case since Alienware broke my old one

This was a simple job, but I was trying to teac my dad how to do this on the other PC's, which need case fans that aren't 6 years old.

No, no overclocking, Alienware is notorious for doing the OCing themselves :eek: !! I already have the machine running "hot", and I was having cooling problems because of it. The Reason for getting the case fans wasn't so much that I "wanted" to tinker with my PC (That's what little brothers computer's are for

), as muchas it was I "needed" to get my PC's Temperature down to a normal leevl so that It would't burn up from the inside out.

The Temp in my bedroom is noticably cooler with all 6 fans running as weel as opposed to 4 (two rear, to front, 1 side and one power supply fan), so that's a good sign. This wasn't so much a matter of "I want kick-@$$ case fans" as it was a matter of "I need any case fans that fit the d@mn bracket!"

The Alienware 133t finally got my order right, unlike the rest of the d@mn PC, which I've practically ahd to replace pice by piece, including the case, since the bozo's in the shipping department broke the door on that too!

Six fans?? You must have a really big case. And does it get pretty loud? Because I just have half as many fans and I can't stand the noise from it.

I got these in the intake ports and the main exhaust at the back... very nice. I must take some pics of my PC and put them up if I ever get my webserver running...

Cyrax, your room shouldn't be any cooler just cos you have some new fans - in fact, if any thing, it should be warmer. The fans don't mean less heat is produced, they just mean that it gets carried away from the source quicker resulting in a cooler computer.

If you really want your PC to run cooler, buy a better heatsink. it's the one part of your PC that you should think about extremely carefully, cos it governs how long your processor can last - the OEM box we use for data processing here has a stock heatsink and runs 24/7 at full load, and the CPU idle is 60 degrees, which is way way too hot. Silicon starts to degrade at about 70 degrees, so the further you can keep your processor from that the better. So we're going to rip out the ****ty OEM heatsink and put in a great big one probably with a 45 CFM delta fan on top, and then put another intake with a duct in the side of the case. That should keep the bugger a bit more chilled.

Or we could just wire it into the central heating system...

If you saw ther inside of my case, you'd knwo why I needed new fans added, it still sasy It's oevrheating but Wintel "Active Monitor" is BSing System Zone 1 and won't update plus if you saw where my case was (enclosed in a desk), you'd know why it needed cooling, the heat was destroying my HDD, and nearly did it again. I'vesicne fixed that problem and I'm doign Video capture, although I'd prefer a Mac for Video Editing, or at least some nice Gold-plated Composite Video cables
