Hurricane Sandy

Anyone here affected?

I'm pretty inland Queens so no flooding where I was. A guy a few blocks away was killed by a falling tree though.

BABs was a bit closer to an evac zone but was fine last I spoke to him.

Anyone else?

We're in SE Pennsylvania and caught a good bit of it last night. It was an experience, but overall just power outages and some minimal home damage. The shore is what got fucked up.

Yeah, I kept expecting a little more craziness in Philadelphia but it didn't happen. Didn't lose our power...streets were a bit of a mess with leaves and branches, and I saw a few trees down. Those Manhattan shots were crazy though. Pretty shocking stuff.

It looks like it was all burned down. How does that happen during a hurricane?

It's actually very common. Power lines fail and drop on homes, trees, etc. Trees or other heavy objects fall and hit exterior gas meters.

Ya, but id think the intense amount of water from a hurricane would put it out pretty quick.

Water won't have much of and effect if it's an electrical or gas fire.

As for me, my power went out 4 times, but it came back on within 5 minutes each time. Overall Philadelphia was spared. We just had a ton of power outages, mostly due to downed trees and utility poles. It seems like the surge hit Jersey and New York, while Baltimore and DC got all the rain. And the eye of the storm went right over my area, so the winds weren't as strong as they were farther out from the center of the storm.

Yup. Here's an example of it happening.

Again in Queens. Hardly any rain at all. Just wind.

I feel so fucking bad for all the people who not only lost people - but lost their hometowns, or the places they grew up.
I'm not sure if anyone can really imagine a several block radius around their home just being completely flattened is like.
