I wouldn't say that this is creepy, but it's definitely interesting. The coal under the town has been burning since 1962 when someone burned trashed in the pit of an abandoned strip mine, which transferred to the coal. They could never put it out, and the whole town is abandoned now due to the subsidence damage that the incident has created.
I've been there and it's pretty neat. They had to build a new section of PA 61, since the old section now looks like this:
