Yeah, I figured the third movie would have been when he dropped it. :P

Though it seems a lot more toned down than in TDK

Well, this movie takes place a number of years later right? Someone must have told him it sounds silly in all that time. I can never take him seriously as Batman.

I'm in the minority of people who like the voice. It serves many purposes - it disguises his real voice and makes him sound scary to the criminals he's beating up.
