Thats what I thought too.

Theyre probably going to make 3 more games set in this time frame, then do 3 more in a different time frame and its just never going to end.

I don't remember Ubuisoft every saying that ACIII would focus on Desmond. That seemed to be fan speculation (along with several other time periods including the American Revolution). Personally, I think a completely Desmond led game would be lame.

Ubisoft has never said that Assassin's Creed is a trilogy.

There can and will be more AC games. One of them might eventually focus on Desmond.

It would be a weird game though, without the focus on historical fiction.

I think people are talking about the end of Assassin's Creed Revelations, which seemed to have hinted at jumping to the current day.

I believe Ubisoft has said that Desmond's story concludes in 2012, and would be odd for it to go beyond that in the real world

Are you sure they said that? I heard that about Ezio's story, I don't recall it being said about Desmond.

There was an interview sometime between Brotherhood and Revelations that basically said "Revelations will be the last we see of Ezio, and 3 will be desmond's game and the end of the trilogy."

That was about it.

I remember reading this article where it was said:

“The meta story is supposed to be carried on forever. We can go on with this brand where we want to – that’s the exciting part about the way it’s constructed. As we’ve said all along, this is the end of Ezio’s story arc; it’s a great place to jump in the franchise and anyone who has played the previous games should have some satisfaction with the answers they get at the end.”

Saying that revelations was the end of Ezio, doesn't really mention Desmond though.
