The thing I really have to ask is what difficulty do you play on?
I was pretty hardcore into DDR my senior year of high school, and even more so when I had access to an arcade machine and later got a cobalt flux pad which was quite possibly the best money I ever spent on a controller after going through about 4 soft pads.
However if you're only playing the game on Light or Standard difficulty you should be fine with the soft pads for a long time.
As far as DDR songs go now, I feel it's mostly trash, and easy. Nothing will ever be as fun as the first time I AA'd Max 300 after like 6 years of playing the game.
Anyway, Was looking at the song list and you would be fine with the newest DDR game for the wii. It's just called Dance Dance Revolution II.
