And what is that diet?
1) My target weight is 225. I topped out at 305 almost a year ago. I'll never be a thin man without working our like I did when I wrestled in high school, and that involved lifting weights and running 6 miles daily, and that's not going to happen with how banged up my body is after years of contact sports and ortho surgeries. I just want to be healthy, and my blood pressure has already dropped to normal levels after being somewhat high.

2) I basically just changed my diet, but did not go on "a diet". I started analyzing how I eat, and essentially I discovered I was addicted to carbohydrates. I wouldn't eat because I was hungry, I would eat almost in a panic due to my blood sugar levels. When I ate, I wouldn't even remember exactly what I ate sometimes or what it tasted like.

I adopted Atkins and then moved to a variation of South Beach. Immediately my appetite changed, I take longer to eat, and enjoy what I eat a lot more.

3) I don't work out at all. That's going to be one of my sub-resolutions this year. I want to start walking on a regular basis like I did when I trained for our Ireland vacation.

Hey man, congratulations on the progress thus far. I'm glad you have found a diet that works for you, and it sounds like you found a nice balance of still being able to eat things you enjoy.

Weight loss is 99% diet for most people, unless you're Micheal Phelps. It's hard to diet. This summer I was down to like 177, I'm back up to around 195 but that's because I have been indulging in bad food for the past few months. I want to get back down to 185. I run and lift, and I try to exercise 3 to 5 days a week. The thing is I love food, especially BAD food, so if I do 5 intense workouts a week I get more flexibility with my upper calorie limit.

Truth be told, at some point I'm gonna have to ween down to 3 solid daily workouts a week due to the normal, realistic demands of life. At that point it will be all about calorie crunching. Although I can never go vegetarian, I will explore some vegetarian dishes so that I can try and stay under 2000 calories for 5 days of the week, and have two 3000 calorie days where I can say fuck-all and throw back a few beers and some delicious fried food.

I've bottomed out at 1400 calories for my extreme minimum, but I just cannot do that and run 15+ miles a week. Also, 1.5 years ago I was tipping the scale around 265 I believe. So yeah....good times.
