Default Mass Effect The Movie

Its a little bit video games.

Its a little bit movies.

So I put it in Happy Hour.

Mass Effect The Movie

Quote:
Yup, folks, the cinematic sci-fi action game, Mass Effect, is on its way towards becoming a Hollywood cinematic sci-fi action movie. Legendary Pictures acquired the feature film rights to the Mass Effect franchise and is already in discussions with the screenwriter of I Am Legend and Thor to pen the screenplay. But wait, there are even bigger names jumping in on this one.

According to the announcement, the BioWare Doctors/co-founders, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk, as well as Mass Effect executive producer, Casey Hudson, will serve as executive producers for the movie alongside film veterans Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Avi and Ari Arad. You may recognize those last two names as the gents working on the film adaptations of Uncharted, Infamous and Lost Planet.

Wait, why cant Drew Karpyshyn (the guy who wrote both games and both novels) write the screen play?

Better question: how can they write a movie based on the games? The games don't have a set story. They don't even have a set main character.

Have you played the games?

Anyway, its generally considered that the default male Sheperd is the "official" Sheperd as far as things go since he's always used in the trailers and such. And the games don't diverge that much based on your choices. Its all the same basic story; all you decide is whether Sheperd is a jerk or not.

Well, your decisions can determine in one case whether an entire race lives or dies. And in Mass Effect 2, many of your characters including Shepard don't even necessarily survive the ending. So while it's not a totally open-ended game, to my mind it does have some pretty major branches.

Maybe it wont be about Shepard?
I think it would be cool if it followed someone else, we already know what happens with Shepard.

Could be good

I resently had a revelation that the only reason I want to buy Mass Effect 2 was for the plot (gameplay doesnt really interest me, and you cant really play the game twice)

Nervous about seeing anything live action, and I guess doing it animated like the game wouldnt be different enough.

How about some pre-rendered direct to dvd stuff?

This, I think, is the best possible thing they could do with the movie. Use the Mass Effect universe, but follow a completely different narrative than the games. Leave that to its respective medium, and utilize the incredible world that Bioware's managed to create. It could be great, but will undoubtedly be only decent, unfortunately.

Though I can hope for the best, but expect Sam Worthington (which might not be so bad...)

So they'll just pick a branch. I'm not saying it'll be good. I'm not saying it'll accurately represent everything good about the games. I'm just saying it could be done.

I've actually been wondering what they will do for the movie.

The first game is like 30 plus hours or so, so how do you trim that down to 2 hours?

Will it focus on a single character or feature an ensemble, how much effort do they give the war.

I don't have high hopes for the movie, but curious what they churn out.

A lot of that 30 hours is running around, going through inventory scenes and side missions, and you could just make a film using the 1st planet (the Human colony) and the 5th planet (where Saren tells you his plan). That is if you wanted to use the plot from the first game.

You'd also have to cut the extra crew members down to 2 or 3.

DId anyone read that Mass Effect comic? Was it any good?

Never read the comic but I have read both novels. They were quite good. Both about different subjects not involving Shephard

Thirty hours might be much for the first Mass Effect. Truth be told I beat the first Mass Effect right before ME2 came out and on easy I finished the game in 8 hours. No joke.
