What we really have to understand about Christianity is that it is the first, and to my knowledge, only major religious doctrine that does not concern itself with governance. Before Christianity religion was part in parcel with politics.

Christianity is intended to be beyond the state; a individual's reverence to God and not a means to organize and control a group. Unfortunately, the draw of using religion as a means to control people has twisted those original principles. Power is all corrupting.
