The changes to the 'easy mode' sound good. It's now called 'Super Guide'. You only get the option after you've died 10 times. You hit a block and the computer takes over. Until you touch a button, then you're in charge again.

And if you're afraid you'll be tempted, you can turn it off in the options menu.
