New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
New iPhone 3G S (16 & 32GB), as well as a $99 3G (8GB) were announced today by Apple.
Link: http://www.apple.com/iphone/
Thoughts?
I find the $99 somewhat enticing. I've never been for investing that much money into a cell phone, so this new price point makes me a bit curious.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
meh, until it's not on at&t, I'm not concerned with it. Eventually an LTE iPhone will exist and that will be when I get it if/when it comes to Verizon.

Landscape will be coming in OS 3.0, you won't need a 3G S for it.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
My issue has always been 3G iPhones are considerably more expensive than the originals (monthly, not phone cost). As long as I can continue to get software upgrades, I'm content with my original iPhone.
The better news is Snow Leopard is only $29 to upgrade

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
The data package costs have always confused me, and not just for the iPhone. The BB Storm has two price points (I the higher one only has corporate mail, whatever that is. I can get into my business e-mail through a remote connection).
Every provider seems to have an added cost per month for their faster phone, but the speed seems keyed into the hardware, not the bandwidth (afterall, the bandwidth is AIR). Seems like we're coming up against the same profit vs. use motive Tesla did. How do you charge more for air?

The same way you charge more for water in a bottle.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
I like the price, I like the features, and I would absolutley love one.
I just can't see spending 70 dollars a month in phone bills, or whatever the minimum contract is with an Iphone.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
Yeah, it's $70 per month minimum for full data plan and only 450 minutes per month. The ridiculous data charge is what has stopped me from getting a touch / PDA phone in the past.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
I would never have gotten my iPhone if I didn't get a 30% FAN discount through my job.

The only difference between the 2 plans is BES or BIS. BES is for when people have to get into their....BES at work which alot of companies do but it depends on how you do it. BIS is more for "personal" email (GMail, etc...) but if you get your email via a remote connection and not use BES at work at all, then you can choose the cheaper plan.
For all: Check with the provider on any employee discounts. Thankfully where I work, I get 24% off monthly at Verizon which helps a ton when paying for 450 minutes/unlim text/BIS with my Storm. Most cell companies have some discount with employers even if only 8% or something, better then nothing.

Re: New iPhone 3G S & $99 8GB
Just downloaded 3.0 and updated my phone, so far so good. Really enjoying Spotlight, it's by far my favorite feature thusfar.

Same here, but I'm planning on starting up my own small business by the end of the year, so I will probably need one to be able to occassionally check e-mail, set up appointments and take calls during the day.
Plus, I'll be able to write off as a business expense!

Wow, honestly $70 per month? I think I heard it's €30 here.
