Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
This is just such a nonsensical discussion, which really should result in: no one fucking cares.
Some people enjoy the game on the console, while others enjoy it more on the PC. Who fucking cares?

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
its a gaming forum man, who cares about 90% of the stuff talked about? that's all it is, just discussions about gaming, none of it goes anywhere.
if you try to take out all the pointless chatter, its going to get even more quiet around here than it already is.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
If we are going down this route, I've always been partial to analog control over WASD for a character.
And its one of the reasons, I stick with consoles. That and most of the genres I play are better suited for the consoles IMO.

haha...so the Heavy is still going to be vulnerable to Sniper fire...sucks for them still. However, I can see having 2 or 3 Heavy's on defense in Goldmine being tactically useful now. Especially with a dispenser nearby...you can slow down the enemy and leave them open for Snipers and Soldiers to pick off. Nice.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Yeah, I think making Heavy's better against Sniper's, or making them faster, would be undermining the idea of the class. These updates and new weapons are all supposed to be alternatives to the original, not better. So far I like the Heavy's updates.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
I've played PC TF2 games where 60% of the players were snipers. Sooooooo much fun.

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
Bungie always claimed that the guys playing Halo with a mouse + keyboard were just as even as the guys playing with the Xbox controller. I never bought into it. Maybe the console evens out by giving players the auto-aim feature? I consider myself to have spent my fair share of time playing Halo. I was obsessed. I own both the console and PC version, and needless to say, the game becomes a lot easier with keyboard + mouse.
The thing about a game like TF2 is that there is a lot of "twitch" movement. At least in my gameplay style. I don't think I could rocket jump over someone, rotate 360 degrees, and then fire a rocket at that person before precisely landing while using a controller.
Anyway, I guess I am a PC-elitist. I guess I'm jaded from the 4+ years playing Counter-Strike, the ultimate online PC FPS.

I'm actually not a twitch shooter, I'm terrible at it. I guess my reflexes aren't fast enough or my hand is just too shaky. It's what makes me a bad Scout and an even worse Sniper. One of the reasons I like TF2 is that twitch shooting, for most of the other classes, isn't important. Strategy and tactics are.
My play style and shooting style revolved more around prediction and timing, guessing how the enemy is going to move. I think it makes me a good demoman, for some reason predicting the arc of a grenade and having it land directly on a guy I see coming is so much easier for me than trying to aim a sniper rifle or get the bead of a pistol on them.
Playing soldier for me is kind of the same. I shoot my rockets at the ground where I think an enemy is going to be. I'll fire one rocket to the right, and immediately launch another to the left of them. A lot of people will dodge right into it.

I'm actually getting quite good at close-range sniping...I have shaky hands too. I find that in TF2 a lot of sniping duels simply come down to reaction time. The jump strafe isn't that valuable for Snipers in TF2 imo. Unfortunately you have to charge your shot, so most people who strafe or jump out from behind a corner might be able to snipe you, but it often doesn't kill you. And then you get your shot .
I like the Soldier, I still haven't got the nuances of the Demoman. When I play as a Demoman I usually just spawn camp with stickies or set up traps to bait Pyros.
I fucking hate Pyros. Did I mention that?

Re: Team Fortress 2: A Heavy Update
The Heavy should have a special ability (bulimia) to make him faster for a short period of time.

A friend of mine at worked joked that his secondary weapon should be a sandwich, which had 3 bites, and would give him a speed boost or recover health.
But then we realized griefers would just stand next to dispensers eating sandwiches.
Would be funny, though.
