Re: The Dark Knight Thread
I finally got to see the Dark Knight...on IMAX nonetheless. I'm glad I waited a week. By the time Friday rolled around I was so beat from I had forgot about most of the stupid Batman hype. I went into the movie with high expectations, but nothing unobtainable. And, I was not disappointed.
It was much much better than Batman Begins. Much. The pacing was wonderful, and the themes were well done.
Still...my only real complaint is that I'm still not sure if I liked casting Aaron Eckhart. Time will tell, and I do plan on seeing the movie a few more times while it is in theaters.
The special effects were "off da hook." And, watching a film shot mostly in Chicago made it all the more enjoyable since I have been living in the city for the past 2 years.
I read two or three critic reviews saying that the action in the Dark Knight was too up-close and claustrophobic, but I'm not sure what they were talking about. Batman laid the smackdown on tons of badies in the film, and he kept a human element the whole time.
And then there was Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. It was maniacal, energetic, over the top, and BRILLIANT. This is how I picture a real villain to act...Nolan hit a home run with the Joker. A villain so insane and only interested in the destruction of society. Brilliant.
Some of the other stuff, like Batman having doubts about being a superhero was touched on in Spiderman 2. But the ending theme of the movie was brilliant, as was the Joker's conversations with Batman about society, society's need for a hero like Batman, and the essence of being a hero.
Needless to say....I could probably continue to deconstruct the movie, but I won't. I want to enjoy it a few more times, because it was that good.
So...hopefully back to the theater I go tonight or tomorrow.

I'd agree.
Plus...the third movie has been the kink in all super hero movies thus far....
Superman 3
Spiderman 3
X-Men 3

Hahaaaaaaahahahaha. They should really watch The Kingdom before they start claiming that. What a terrible movie for closeups.

Let's not skim over it without looking at the movies that started the trend
Superman III
Batman Forever
Matrix Revolutions
But speaking of 3, just came back from my 3rd showing of the Dark Knight (first in a normal theatre) the shots filmed in IMAX lose their luster a bit, but the movie is still every bit as awesome.
caught an awesome line I missed before.
When Joker first meets the mob, I think it is Sal who says he wears lousy make-up and a cheap suit.
So when the Joker sits down after the magic trick, he is like this suit isn't cheap. You should know you paid for it. I think it was to Gamble. Such a simple line but he taunts them so bad.

If Nolan does it, it will be good. It might not be as good as The Dark Knight, but it certainly will not be a bad movie.

It has been pretty much since it came out, though it's been slowly losing ground (down to 9.2 from 9.5)...
The IMDB top 250 is pretty silly though... A nice list to browse for good movie recommendations, but I wouldn't take their placement very seriously... There's too much hype and drama.

For a time it was also on the list of worst movies... simultaneously.
Hackers FTW!
There was also a large campaign of people who intentionally voted down The Godfather which is why The Shawshank Redemption is now second when it should be third...
And... as GT's official go-to guy for all news Batman, I present the official teaser poster for the third film:

People said that about Spider-Man 3 and look what happened there.
I'll believe it when I see it...in the mean time, I'm still absorbing The Dark Knight.

Wait you will only see Batman if you get depressed?
How does that work?

Re: The Dark Knight Thread
Friday estimates show The Dark Knight just barely ($300,000) being edged out by Pineapple Express.
Last Friday, The Mummy topped TDK by 2.5 million, but TDK still ended up on top for the weekend.
1st for the 4th week in a row, perhaps? *ponders*
