Report: Favre ‘itching’ to return
Quote:
BRISTOL, CONNECTICUT (TICKER) —Brett Favre could again be having second thoughts about retirement.
According to a report by ESPN.com on Wednesday, Favre has an “itch” to come out of retirement and report to training camp with the Green Bay Packers later this month.
ESPN.com cited sources close to the team and player. The report said Favre’s family is “tugging” on him to play.
Favre has communicated his potential desire to coach Mike McCarthy, but talks have not advanced to a substantive stage, a Packers source said told ESPN.com.
PA SportsTicker was unable to reach Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, for comment.
Favre has two years remaining on his contract at an average of about $12.5 million per season. His salary is not currently counting toward the salary cap because the Packers placed him on the reserve-retired list.
This is not the first time it has been reported that Favre was thinking of returning.
In April, the Los Angeles Times reported that Favre has been quietly talking with teams about their interest in trading for the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player.
On March 4, Favre, who played with the Packers for 16 seasons and holds virtually every NFL passing record, announced his retirement during an emotional press conference at Lambeau Field.
However, Favre, 38, has yet to give written notice of his retirement to the league or players’ union.

He should stay retired. "It's better to burn out than to fade away."

Re: Report: Favre ‘itching’ to return
I want him to come back and go out with a bang. The way he went out was kind of a bummer. I was really hoping that the Packers would win the Super Bowl this year because I wanted him to win it all then retire with that.
I hope he comes back.

His first pass in the NFL was an interception, and so was his last. :P
I just hears this a couple of hours ago on ESPN. I'm hoping for a return.

Re: Report: Favre ‘itching’ to return
I hate when players do this.
So much.
"I'm going to make a big emotional farewell, and stick it to my current team by retiring mid-contract, and then in a few months when the press dies down of me retiring, I'm going to announce my possible un-retirement, wait a period of time to see how the media handles it, and then carry on like nothing changed."
I actually really like Favre, and do hope he comes back.
But I just think that retiring, then coming out of retirement, especially if it's the following goddamn season is entire bullshit.

True true, Neil Young said it best. When you retire you should just retire.

Dammit! I don't need John Madden mentally masturbating Brett any more than he's gonna this year.

Re: Report: Favre ‘itching’ to return
Yeah, I kind of hope that he just stays put. Recent reports have Brett saying that "it's just a rumor." I don't know, Favre can be a fun player to watch, but I really don't need another year of ESPN stories about Favre.

Re: Report: Favre ‘itching’ to return
If Favre came back, it would be a dick move. Aaron Rodgers is supposed to be starting as QB for green bay right? The team has moved on, they've started rebuilding their offense. It seems kind of unfair to Rodgers to have his position compromised so quickly. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's fun to watch Favre play and I wouldn't be upset if he came back. I just can't see the logistics in him coming out of retirement.
But hey, you never know. Personally, I'm surprised he called it quits after last season. He was playing good, and he still seems to be with it. And he is fun to watch. So who knows. But Green Bay has 3 QBs in the lineup, and I'm sure they're all itching to play.
