Matchbox Twenty Fans ... be alert
So, I am a long time fan of Matchbox Twenty. I have sadly never gotten to see them in concert but have held on to hopes that one day I will. I just got notification that Rob Thomas' solo album will be coming out in April. jeepnut assures me that this is just what happens with really big bands. But I now fear that we will not get the same quality as More Than You Think You Are if we ever do get another MB20 album.
What do you all think?
Have you heard the single, Lonely No More ? What do you think? I haven't heard all of it, but it seems to be too POP. I loved the soul in MB20's 3rd album and I would have hoped that Rob Thomas would use that in his solo endeavor.

It's another night in hell, Another child won't live to tell
Can you imagine what it's like to starve to death
And as we sit free and well, Another soldier has to yell
Tell my wife and children I love them in his last breath
C'mon now amen, amen, amen

Personally, I hope he gets his pop fix with this solo album so he will be less inclined to put it on a MB20 album. I guess it could easily swing either way.

Re: Matchbox Twenty Fans ... be alert
It depends on the artist if his/her solo album is going to be good.
I'm pretty sure that Gwen Stefani isn't so keen on her solo career anymore, because I've heard that her solo album isn't that hot.
..And in terms of J-rock, after Gackt left Malice Mizer, he got enormous fan backing. He's had four or five albums out in Japan now.

A band must stick together through thick and thin. Loyalty to the team and friendship must always be placed before personal gain.

I don't mind if he comes up with a solo album... You can never get too much of that voice
What I hate to think is that a band member having a solo album somehow signifies the breaking up of a band...

The poll doesn't make sense. Switch Yes and No to Good and Bad.

Re: Matchbox Twenty Fans ... be alert
I don't like Matchbox Twenty, so I don't particularly care for this situation, but I'll comment on the solo artist aspect.
I think it's a great thing when artist's want to express themselves through solo projects. It allows them to work freely without interference and distractions from other band members, etc. Usually solo projects are what that person really invisions being their true sound, even if they do write the songs for the band that they are in. I know first hand that the three main song writers in the Spinto Band all have solo projects and what they do on their own is absolutely incredible. I don't think they could survive within the band if they didn't do their own stuff on the side. In fact, the last 5 or 6 Spinto Band songs we recorded started as solo songs (as did most of them) for the other guys in the band.

Sorry... I meant to put the question as "Solo projects... are they good? "
But you'll just have to deal with it because I can't change it.
