When I was in Malta, we got a
really heavy hail storm. The hail wasn't big, it was very small maybe more sleet-like, but it came down really thick. There was so much of it that it stuck and formed big piles of it which, if you didn't know better, looked like snow. Indeed, Malta is in the middle of the Mediterranean, so none of the Maltese have ever seen snow unless they left the island. So all day we heard from one Maltese person after another saying how it snowed.
It was fun, though. Like I said, it came down really thick, thicker than I've ever seen it before or since. And so, there was plenty enough to have hail-ball fights.....

EDIT: Found them.
It doesn't look much like hail in most of those, but that's because it melted so quickly. Note that it stuck and didn't melt nearly as quickly up on the balconies.
