Default First PS3 boxart

So I guess the font is here to stay.

i like how the vertical line seems to interfere less with the image than the old horizontal line.

and how IGN put their logo on her boob.

I don't like the red P logo, it looks very dated

oddly thats the one thing i DO like. hate that font tho.

now curious... how official is this picture? is it even real or just a mockup?

i ask because... that is not a DVD sized art work. put into perportion for a DVD front size... its at least an inch shorter height wise then a DVD case would be.

will PS3 games be in a different sized case then normal DVD cases now?

You're right about the size:

Quote:
Also, dimensions exactly match that of the art used in a Blu-ray case (which has a large blue header on top), hinting towards want kind of physical box it will incorporate. IGN has mocked up how we think the final box will look in a BluRay box, which is linked below.
http://media.ps3.ign.com/articles/73...g_3900789.html

And here I thought they wouldn't be using the standard Blu-ray cases. Far too round and blue for my liking...

PS3's going to fail if every boxart like that. I'm sorry, I'm not a fan of SpiderStation 3 font, at all.

Actually I didn't realise that it's the font from Spiderman. How the hell did that happen?

Seems a bit... lacking?

I'd like to see some more effort put into future products.

It's just one more noticeable annoyance added to the stack. For instance, if you're having a bad day, minor setbacks like slightly uncooked food or a missed phonecall may have a larger impact.

Since I have gone from wanting a PS3 to not wanting a PS3 (largely due to the price of the machine), I am finding myself looking for small errors, such as the terrible Spidey-font and the trade of rumble for tilt, to support my decision.

Edit: Also, the argument could be made that such small, obvious mistakes could imply a potential for larger mistakes.

You can laugh, but it really is an important part of the buying process. It can make or break a product. And if the company is so lazy that they're recycling a font, what does that tell you about their graphic design choices. I mean, damn, they've been told the font is ugly already.

honestly i just cant think of what was going through thier minds when they picked that for the PS3 font. it just seems beyond stupid.

hey, maybe Microsoft will use the Xbox name front for thier new windows cover!
or they could use the halo font for thier xbox name!

Well yeah, Sony Pictures produced Spider Man, so they're using their own font. Whatever, it's just a few letters. I don't think anyone is going to look at a PS3 game and think "ew, look at that spider man font on the side of the box. I am so not buying any of these games".

I was wondering about this font Sony chose to use. I knew it indeed looked much like the Spiderman movie font, but I wondered exactly how similar it was.

I found out you can download the font here. However, as is described in the comments at that link, the spiderman font itself is a derivative of a previous font called "1979" (don't ask me why it's named that). You can find the 1979 font here. You can see they're almost identical, except for some slight changes (to some of the capital letters, for example). Perhaps in a few months someone will make a "PlayStation 3" font.

Maybe this rabbit-hole goes even deeper? I just thought the small history was interesting.
