Re: Sony praises Wii as well
I like being a PC fanboy because you can't not win. The PS3 will be surpassed from a technical standpoint weeks before it is released. And keyboard/mouse is still the most intuitive setup on the market.
I love Nintendo’s franchise titles but Mario wii looks exactly the same as Sunshine, Metroid Prime 3 looks like 2 and 1, and so on. Maybe we’ll see some innovating games within the next few years. I bet Halo 3 looks like Halo 2 as well. Oh man, I can't wait. Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear always add enough cool stuff to keep the games interesting though. And Nintendo always has its random titles, like Pikmin, that turn out to be much more enticing than Mario's 3rd rendition in 3D.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
Nintendo has already said they aren't in to "compete" with Sony or MS. THey want you to buy one in addition to the other consoles. Thats their goal and alot of people are saying that. I doubt Nintendo is relaly pushing hard for #1 but want you to purchase their console alongside the other offerings. Hence why its a little less powerful, but different from the others, and cheaper.
I dont mind great graphics, but tahts what my PC is for. I get alot more use from my PC then a console would ever give me. Pictures? PC. Music? PC or MP3 Player.

Comparing a PC to a Console is like comparing a Leer Jet to a car. Both are modes of transport, but it's not fair to directly compare the two.
Of course your PC will get more use, it can play music, view pictures, use IM, watch videos, store files and all that. A console is strictly (minus music, but who actually uses the Xbox for that) for gaming, you have to keep that in mind.

Sony and MS seem to not say that. They want you to think their console can do everything for you. I don't want that. I have a PC to do everything and play PC games. I want a gaming console to play games on. Not do things my PC already does.
Yes, some people do use their consoles for the extra things but I dont want to justify the extra money on things I'll rarely use.

Hey now, that's not fair at all. Mario Galaxy inparticular looked leaps and bounds better than Sunshine. Sunshine was a framerate-retarded low-res texture playground. Galaxy improves on it, and has superior lighting. Metroid Prime 3 is a little more understandable, but this time around they have more polys and textures to play around with, because they already have a solid engine. But what they showed looked the same.
Basically it's not fair to pass off something you saw in a trailer as similar graphics until you see the difference on a home-rig with your own eyes. Trailers can only show so much.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
Fair enough, but I want to play it.
It definitely caught my eye, but I'm hoping it's more interesting to play through than Sunshine. It probably will be. Nintendo said good things about it and it seems to be getting positive feedback.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
just in rebuttle to some of the comments made here...
how does Sony go from dominating 66% of the industry to having a tie with Microsoft in 1 generation? That's highly improbable... if you had any sense of business ethics or marketing you'd know for a fact that a strangehold on the market of 50% of more is a tough percentage to beat.
Even if you take price into consideration you've still got more than 100 million PS2 owners who will trade in their PS2's for like $60 towards the purchase of the PS3. The ps3 has the added value of 99.9% backwards compatibility. I've got 3 PS2's sitting here waiting to be traded in for the PS3 and whats more I can still play my PS2 games on it, and have an awesome next-gen console.
Also I keep hearing things about the Virtual Console being a seller for the Wii..... Honestly thats down the drain at this point. With the hackability of the PSP and the interface of the PS3 being the same... and with Linux on the HDD... you can bet that people will be playing more than just NES classics on the PS3... all the other emulators out for Linux..... I kid you not.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
So you think that illegal hacking of PS3 can compete with the legal Nintendo virtual console?

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
There's one important point you're missing: People are lazy. Sure, emulation is rampant, but most people don't want to go find out how to do all that. Nintendo and Microsoft's services hand it to you on a silver platter.

Are you asking if people would rather pay for something or get it for free?

Well there are several factors that are much different this time around.
1)MS is the first one out the gate. Granted, you could compare it to the DC, but MS has a very solid lead thus far and has delivered some truly great games for people. Along with support from EA.
2)Support from EA by the time PS3 comes out, 360 will have 2 next-gen versions of Madden, I just don't see people waiting if they play and look pretty similar.
3)You've got to be kidding yourself if you believe the people who bought a ps2 will show enough brand loyalty to buy a ps3 for 600 bucks. Granted its not a problem for the first year as the diehards will buy it anyhow.
4)Emulation is not a big selling point for the PSP because most people don't know how to do it. Heck, most people don't know how to do it on their computers. And its not something advertiseable. Since it is illegal. Nintendo and MS can show it off in commercials or magazines and make it easy for people to buy.
5) The Wii. It may be a second console for some and a dominate one for others. But unlike last gen or the gen before it, Nintendo offers a clear alternative.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
again, are people saying that 360 and Wii will each dominate the PS3 in sales? because thats what it sounds like, only people arent making any concrete predictions...it's real easy to talk if you dont back it up with something that you go out on a limb with
