its not a gimmick...but I dont think it's mainstream gaming either (unless you get a PS3 or 360 along with it)...there will always be room for the traditional controller-style system

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
Since it seems you can use the GC controller on Wii games via the 'cube area on the Wii, Wii technically is traditional

Of course there will always be room for the traditional controller. Just like there will always be room for the keyboard and mouse. I think that Nintendo's just showing that there's plenty of room for improvements/alternatives in terms of what can be done with controllers and how games can be played.
Sony called it a Gimmick, now they think it isn't after they got spanked at E3. I'll be getting a 360 and a Wii as of this E3 for a mix of "mainstream" and "gimicky" gameplay.
Nobody's ever missed a chance to criticize Nintendo for when they've made mistakes, it's our turn to gloat; butt out.

Did you just refer to yourself as Nintendo?
And the Wii will only do good because of the controller. And Nintendo knows that. Nintendo also knows that could be the reason they get ****ed in the ass, which is possibly why they're keeping the "You can use your GC controller!" option open.
And the reason (I believe) it's so cheap, is because it's barely a step up from a Gamecube. It's like an expansion for it. Much like the Expansion pack for the N64, except having nothing to directly do with the Gamecube.
I dont see Nintendo actually having a shot at competing with the 360 or PS3 game wise. Because as I stated before, people who like games with good graphics, will get one of those.

I was referring to Nintendo fans; I thought it was obvious, sorry I didn't spell it out (literally).
The Wii will not simply succeed because of the controller; it'll certainly help. But if they succeed it will be because they have games like Mario and Zelda on day one. Because they advertised things the right way. Because they didn't overshoot their tech specs but provided an economically friendly (yet still fun) product. And it will be because of their virtual console.
Nintendo has a lot of things going for them this time around.

I've never denied being a Nintendo fan. Look at my screen name; do I look like I'm in denial? Certainly I've been more excited about other things this past generation (namely World of Warcraft and a select few Xbox/PS2 titles). But I have an enormous amount of confidence in Nintendo to do things in a contrary yet entertaining way.
I guess if you find it funny, power to you. But you just come off as a pretentious prick to me.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
The Wii has certainly proved to be a better-thatn-previously-thought console. In fact, its won me over even with my severe doubts in the early goings.
But as for power and market share, lets not overreact.
Essentially Nintendo has not done anything differently in the marketing strategy. Its still the avant-garde hardcore base company it was with the Gamecube and even the N64. Its still pushing dated macots that are only really loved by their existing user base, which are aging.
They are not marketing themselves to the mainstream gaming populace, and this will not equal dominance in the industry. I think they will catch up to both Xbox and PS3 (who I think will move into a tie), but Nintendo isn;t going to re-emerge as the Nintendo of old any time soon.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
I like being a PC fanboy because you can't not win. The PS3 will be surpassed from a technical standpoint weeks before it is released. And keyboard/mouse is still the most intuitive setup on the market.
I love Nintendo’s franchise titles but Mario wii looks exactly the same as Sunshine, Metroid Prime 3 looks like 2 and 1, and so on. Maybe we’ll see some innovating games within the next few years. I bet Halo 3 looks like Halo 2 as well. Oh man, I can't wait. Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear always add enough cool stuff to keep the games interesting though. And Nintendo always has its random titles, like Pikmin, that turn out to be much more enticing than Mario's 3rd rendition in 3D.

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
Nintendo has already said they aren't in to "compete" with Sony or MS. THey want you to buy one in addition to the other consoles. Thats their goal and alot of people are saying that. I doubt Nintendo is relaly pushing hard for #1 but want you to purchase their console alongside the other offerings. Hence why its a little less powerful, but different from the others, and cheaper.
I dont mind great graphics, but tahts what my PC is for. I get alot more use from my PC then a console would ever give me. Pictures? PC. Music? PC or MP3 Player.

Comparing a PC to a Console is like comparing a Leer Jet to a car. Both are modes of transport, but it's not fair to directly compare the two.
Of course your PC will get more use, it can play music, view pictures, use IM, watch videos, store files and all that. A console is strictly (minus music, but who actually uses the Xbox for that) for gaming, you have to keep that in mind.

Hey now, that's not fair at all. Mario Galaxy inparticular looked leaps and bounds better than Sunshine. Sunshine was a framerate-retarded low-res texture playground. Galaxy improves on it, and has superior lighting. Metroid Prime 3 is a little more understandable, but this time around they have more polys and textures to play around with, because they already have a solid engine. But what they showed looked the same.
Basically it's not fair to pass off something you saw in a trailer as similar graphics until you see the difference on a home-rig with your own eyes. Trailers can only show so much.
EDIT:

Re: Sony praises Wii as well
Fair enough, but I want to play it.
It definitely caught my eye, but I'm hoping it's more interesting to play through than Sunshine. It probably will be. Nintendo said good things about it and it seems to be getting positive feedback.
