Don't remember the exact quote but someone said with naming conventions like that he should have seen Wii coming from a mile away.

Yeah, but what's a better name? "New" Super Mario Brothers is likely to capture the most market share. People will recognize it and buy it out of nostalgia.

Sure, you could slap a number on the end. But they're not Capcom.

No, the sequel will probably be called New Super Mario Bros 2. Just like Metroid Prime got a sequel called Metroid Prime 2. >.<
