Meh, we'll see what difference it makes in their sales now that they've lost one of their biggest chip contracts (Apple).

i got it from newegg for $230
i upgraded from my p4 2.66, my real reason for upgrading tho was my ram was totally screwed up, so i was gunna buy new ram, but figured might as well upgrade and buy the better ram for a upgraded pc. :P

Re: IBM unveils 6ghz chip!
I probably should've sprung for an AMD but I'm running a P4 3.2 w/ HT... and 4 juicy GB of ram
I've heard a lot about how AMD is better, but my games run fine... especially the graphic heavy ones.

Re: IBM unveils 6ghz chip!
AMD is not "better" in general...it's "different"
Intel and AMD chips are programmed for different tasks.
Intel's are more for code processing...like mathematics and such whereas AMDs processors are more for video processing and that sort of stuff...so it depends what you're using your PC for.

Re: IBM unveils 6ghz chip!
well there is no big defference if you're running a powerfull CPU, you would probably see the difference on very intense games...for example if you used an AMD processor to run Elder scrolls IV and you used your P4 afterwards you might notice some slow down....but the game's not out yet so i dunno.

Re: IBM unveils 6ghz chip!
I use AMD because I get more bang for my buck. I paid around $85 for my Athlon XP 2500 (back in Dec of '03) and its been well worth its value for me. Granted..me upgrading to dual core is gonna cost me more but its fine with me because I know I'll get my full use from it.
