I think Fable deserves to be on this list because it, more than any other game I can recall, pushed through the idea of having complete control of your character and allowing his actions to significantly alter even the smallest aspects of the game world. Now of course Molyneux and the Carter Brothers didnt accomplish this feat, but they made a few steps toward it.
I HOPE Fable helped usher in a new breed of games....or at least made developers consider adding in a bit of cause-and-effect in their titles.

Morrowind came first and a lot closer to that goal than Fable did.

I honestly enjoyed Fable more than Morrowind. Both were excellent games.

Fable was a huge letdown for me. I followed the game since its inception (back when it was referred to as Project-Ego) and I even conducted the first interview with Big Blue Box about the game. As it came closer and closer to release the features became smaller and smaller. In the end Fable was a good game, but nowhere near what it was promised to be. Perhaps if Molyneux didn't hype it up so much it would have been better received. It would have a possibility of cracking my top ten, but Knights of the Old Republic I and II would be before it.

I hear ya. I didn't follow Fable, but I followed Halo 2. And I felt raped when they released the game.

Hype = huge let downs.
