It's a standard tactic: when you realize you've been made to look like an ass, backpedal and claim that actually, you were just joking around the whole time. No harm intended. Really.

Problem is Typhoid does it so often and so clumsily that it doesn't work.

Ursinus may be a fine place for beer and football, but Swarthmore has more academic power in its French Department than all of Ursinus put together.
