In any case, does anybody really think parents are bringing their kids to these movies for anything resembling their own good? This is happening because some parents don't seem to have gotten it through their heads that they aren't single young people any more. They miss the good old days when they could just waltz into Braveheart and have a good time with popcorn and their friends. And so now they come into Black Hawk Down dragging the little tyke with them because they couldn't find anyone to babysit, but oh, they so wanted to see the movie!

Let's not have too much sympathy for parents just because they're raising a kid. I would bet that most of those who bring their kids to inappropriate movies know that they shouldn't be doing it. It's just that they're too selfish to do otherwise.
I couldn't agree with you more. Parenting isn't the only area of married life that is suffering due to people's lack of sacrifice for their family, but marriages themselves are ending because of attitudes like "I didn't think it was going to be like this." My 31 yr old brother is heartbroken at this moment because my "sister"-in-law has separated from him because she still wants to party and he wanted to start talking about having kids. Ok, if your 26 and married "partying" is a valid reason for not wanting kids, but when you start getting into your thirties it's time to grow the **** up.

Unfortunately we seem to be living in a world where people want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to have children, yet remain children themselves. It's like they decided to have a kid in the same way that a 5 yr. old wants a goldfish at the county fair. They scream "I want, I want, I want!" and when they finally get it they ignore it when the fun wears off and in one week "Goldie" is floating at the top of the tank.

When I have children I am fully prepared for one of us to stay home for the first 5-10 years and maybe more. Kids don't need money or stuff, they need a loving, responsible family that is willing to make the sacrifices necessary for raising a child.
