Actually, I found the sound card Jonbo is talking about at Circuit City yesterday, and it's 200 dollars.
My friend who wants it (he's the musician, I'm just the computer guy) and I decided not to get it thought, because it seems like overkill. It's a top of the line sound card built for gaming.
We found a few at
http://www.musiciansfriend.com that we liked, though, and they are built specifically for recording. The one we are considering right now is about 130 dollars, and it has the 1/4 inputs we need to hook up the instruments, and some other ports to hook up things like the mics and PA system.
