Xanny, I ain't giving up on Nintendo, just to FYI. I was just saying that ethernet should have been built in because not everyone has wireless routers yet. Some people swear to never get one until they get almost perfect signal strength

Plus...with the advancement in how quickly cable high speed is jumping (already seeing 20 down/2 up conenctions in testing here in the US), the 802.11b standard will be too slow for some people.

And soon enough, the G standard will be too slow for the internet connections that can be pumped out.

The only reason Nintendo irks me with HD is because IT IS going to be the standard in the US in only a few years. I know 480p is great and all but I wish there was flexibility in allowing up to 1080i or p or whatever and not just only 480p

Nintendo has promised to sell a cheap router. And as for people who won't get one until they have almost perfect signal strength: I'm guessing those would be hardcore tech-heads. Too bad they only make up a tiny minority of the population. They're missing out, too. It's good enough for my dad, and he's a computer engineer.

"In only a few years"? How many years would that be? 3? 5? 10?

Current data on HDTV adoption is based on sales reports by retailers, but there's a big problem with it. It only measures how many HDTV sets are being sold. There's good evidence to suggest that a significant number of HDTV sets are being purchased by people who already have an HDTV set. They just want to upgrade because they're crazy tech-heads like that. That's good for the manufacturers, but it doesn't increase marketshare one bit.

The other problem is that right now, the people buying HDTV sets tend to be early adopters. One reason that IGN is stupid is they think the advent of HD can be compared to the transition to color from black and white. The fact of the matter is most people see no compelling reason to get an HDTV set. I have no doubt that within a few years, HDTV will be in some 20% of households. The question is how fast it will grow after that, and I wouldn't be too sure that it's going to be met with eager hands just because a few people on the internet think it's the greatest new technology ever made.

Besides that, we have Europe and Japan to consider. Look up their numbers some time.

The bottom line is that saying HD will be the standard in a few years is not only vague, it's also frankly foolish and heedlessly optimistic.

P.S. Don't look now, but Nintendo still makes way more money in their business than Microsoft. They even do better than Sony. So why are they going to be third party in a few years again?

I'm not gonna sit here and argue this anymore. Both of us have points. Not all can be agreed upon. I like HD because I want to stay a step ahead or be with the trend.

I guess you forgot the fact that I still will purchase Nintendo before others.

I must be missing something. Where did I say you wouldn't? I just said if Nintendo's not your thing, then it's not your thing and that's really okay by me. After all, you were saying in your first post that Nintendo is on its way to becoming a third party or dropping out of the business. But I never tried to guess about what you would buy or tell you what you should. Frankly, I don't care about that.
