Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
This is so exciting. I'm really looking forward to E3 now because I have no idea what they're talking about.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I think the 'feeling' clue they're giving us is some kind of amazing function in the controller that'll create the feeling of whatever the onscreen character is holding. For example, if it's a racing game, the controller's backside will suddenly 'feel' like a steering wheel. If it's a Zelda game, your controller will suddenly feel like a sword or other weapon.
Just a guess.
I'm so happy to hear Super Smash Bros. will be a launch title though!

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I'd take HD-DVD over any other medium avaliable, especially Blu-Ray. For all you who bitch about Nintendo going their own way on things (like proprietary discs), you should be praying for HD-DVD. It has great potential, unlike Blu-Ray. It is being designed to be backwards compatable with DVDs, so it has a greater change of being adopted by Hollywood, as well as being put into PC drives. And if movies come out on DVD, it increases the number of companies using the format, which leads to lower discs costs, which makes developers happy.
I just don't see Blu-Ray being sucessful. But this is all BS, the guy took already existing rumors and wrote about it. Just look at the way it's written, it's in the same manner that all the Dolphin BS was written in. It's the same thing every time, and the guy is always supposedly "credible" until he disappears after the trade shows.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I'm not saying HD-DVD will be "teh suxorz", I just prefer Blu-Ray for the fact its larger and makes it much easier for High Definition stuff to fit on 1 disc intead of multiples like current DVD's are. I'd like to have all 3 LotR movies, in high def, on 1 disc instead of 3 or more.
But I'll embrace either format. Companies need to stop bitching with each other and settle on one format.

I really agree. HD-DVD is the way to go right now. Particularly when it comes to movies, HD-DVD is going to end up being more versatile because of its compatability with current DVD's, and the fact that it will support more compression formats than MPEG-2.
And usually I don't I agree with a lot of what Gekko says, but I'm thinking the guy who came up with these rumors is blowing smoke. Anybody could say what he's saying and be believed. Although, I'm not going to say he's outright wrong, I just don't think he's working with any more info than we've already got to come to his conclusions.

It's true, they really need to decide. But I personally think it's kind of unfair of Sony to place us in a position like this. They're releasing Blu-Ray before the HD-DVD format is going to be finalized and mass produced. So if Blu-Ray starts winning over the market, backwards compatability could go bye bye if the general consumers just go with Blu-Ray because it's out first.
But as you said, whatever format wins the war will be the one that I buy into.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
I have made a short animation on how I think the revolution controller will revolutionize gaming this next generation. I have started to say this thing before but now I have the real thing.
two wireless joystick type devices. on top of each one is a touch pad you control with your thumbs and it has tactile feedback on the pads (see my other posts) on the front are normal analog buttons
inside each joystick, is a gyro sensor so you can "fly" them in air individually. (imagine ace combat, mech games, driving games, etc) plus now each joystick has individual force feedback... ie if you fire the right gun, only that one shakes, and if you fire the left gun only that shakes... now not only do you have force feed back, but you can tell which side the vibrations are coming from...
each joystick has a rechargable battery in it, and you put it in the charger (which is part of the system) to recharge.
video is rendering, so it'll be up later.

Now imagine trying to control the genres that don't involve a vehicle of some sort...

What if you only have one gun? What if you have no gun... What's so special about that in the first place?

Now that I got some actual time to write...
Yes, Blu-Ray has a larger capacity. Big deal. Over the years, chances are HD-DVD discs will either be released with a larger capacity, or a higher compression methoed will be developed. Do I think Blu-Ray will be a good disc? Of course, but I think it will go the way of the minidisc, and not really be adapted.
HD-DVD has the backwards compatability. They have already developed a laser than can read both blue and red laser discs. So when consumers buy their new HD-DVD player, they can still play their large DVD collection. Meanwhile, Blu-Ray lacks backwards compatability, and needs new production facilities to make the discs, and those ain't cheap.
When it comes time to sell it to the movie industry, I see them choosing HD-DVD.
As for the guy coming up with this stuff, everyone is assuming it will have a HD, an ethernet port, and everything else. He stole IGN's idea of gyros, you know he wouldn't have come up with it on his own. But he offers nothing new, nothing radical. It was the same thing last time with Dolphin. Everyone assumed it would have an LCD screen on the controller, so they people confirmed it would have a color LCD screen. When it didn't, they changed screen names.
Nintendo is not a company that is known to leak information to create hype. If it comes from developers who have the dev kits, then believe it, but don't get your heart set on it. If not, it's fake. The only time I've ever seen information leaked from Nintendo is when the GBA was revealed by a mag scan from Famitsu.

Re: Revolution Rumors (details leaked)
Well, he didn't just get the gyro idea from IGN (who got it from N-sider anyway). Nintendo has invested a large amount of money into Gyration. Could it be for Revolution? Maybe. Or it just might be for better gyration controls as seen in such recent games as Wario Ware Twisted! and Yoshi Universal Gravitation.
And while it might not seem practical for the movie industry to go with Blu-ray, take a look at two of the names on the Blu-ray Disc Association Board of Directors:
Twentieth Century Fox
Walt Disney Pictures and Television
Two giants in film and television.
