Default Suikoden IV Reviewed at IGN

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/577/577889p1.html

Suikoden IV got a 7.9. This is pretty low compared to the previous three games, who all received 9.0 or higher from IGN.

The game is due for release next week, I already have it pre ordered and I'll be picking it up on friday. Is anyone else looking forward to this game? Suikoden III received GameSpot's RPG of The Year in 2002... beating Sqaure's Kingdom Hearts. I just hope the fourth installment lives up to the other three games.

I'm pleased by the review. Most of his complaints were about the lack of Trinity Sight System. Actually... I'm happy that it's gone. It worked great for three, because the story permitted for three possible outcomes; but, it shouldn't be repeated and overused.

I'm glad that the pairs have been removed... but four controllable characters? Four out of 100ish? There was a time when I felt six was not enough. I can't imagine how four could be enough. It'll be your main character and three extras. And, there are many points in the game when you are required to have people in your party.

I -expect- the game to be excellent like the previous few. The party size is my only concern.

A lot lower than I expected.

Edit: EGM gave it 6/10 and GMR gave it 5/10

wtf happened...

Well I've played about 2 hours of the game so far... and I'm not quite feeling it. It just seems, sort of, lifeless... Areas I've explored so far are really kind of dull, not interesting in the least. Story is half interesting, half boring so far, and combat is really bland right now.

I dunno, I'm just not feeling it. With all previous Suikoden games I was hooked from the start, this one just seems odd, so far... I mean, it could very will pick up and become more interesting soon, hopefully.

Ugh, and the sea travel on the ship... it takes nearly 12 minutes to travel between two VERY close together islands because there's a random battle every 5 freakin seconds. I find myself retreating 9/10 battles I encounter because A) it would take forever to get somewhere by fighting every battle, and B) its the same god damn wild sea weed monster crap over and over again, which is incredibly boring.

I see potential in the game, but I really not impressed with it right now...

Yeah. It's definently disappointing. Which sucks considering how badly I want to love the game.

*TIP* Hold R1 when running or in a ship. You go faster.

Well, I played for a few more hours and it has gotten better, mostly story wise. I'm enjoying it, and i'm hoping it continues to get better as I play more.

Suikoden IV makes me sad.
I really want to like it but there is nothing at all fantastic about it.
In fact, they took away everything i loved about Suikoden III.
Except for the fact that you get to recruit a lot of people.
But most of the characters are so uninspired that I don't really care.

I grant Suikoden IV the title of The game that greatly disappoints Dylflon.

Everyone do yourself a huge favor and go out and buy Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It came out about 2-3 months ago, and I swear, I haven't played this good of a RPG in a very, very, very long time. Beats the living **** out of Suikoden IV in everyway possible.

It got 2004 RPG of the year from IGN and it also got 2004's best game no one played award. Trust me, you'll love the game. I am playing right now and ever since I started, the game does not stop to disappoint! The whole story is interesting, it just doesn't gets boring at all. Give it a try or better yet, return or sell Suikoden IV and buy this game.

If you play the game, let me know what you think of it.

I played and reviewed Shadow Hearts 2, and I wasn't as impressed with it as most people were. I enjoyed it for the most part however, and it was quite surprising to see that it was any good at all considering I pretty much hated the first game.

Suiko IV seems to have taken the same path as III. I didn't enjoy Suiko III a lot. The battle system sucked but the story was alright. I miss II. That was great fun. :P

I'm playing III through again, and I'm enjoying it a lot.

A lot more than the first time, that is.

Suikoden IV gets a lot better in terms of story.
I WAS disappointed but as soon as you get better Rune Levels and recruit better fighters, the Battles are that much more impressive.

I'm on hour 10 and the story is compelling. Although the other Suiko's had me hooked on the story from the start....Suiko IV does not disappoint once you get deep into the storyline...
