The last paper I wrote was a 7 pager about the creation of a single painting (Redon's The Cyclops) as a result of three different states of mind: a mental illness, a religious vision, a drug-induced hallucination. To which my professor responded, "Your paper was totally amazing. I gave you an A, but really it was even better than that. It really blew me away and was one of the best papers I've ever received." Maybe the rest just sucked.

The paper I remember having the most fun writing (but not necessarily the best I've written) was in my senior year of high school. My English teacher asked the class, and I don't remember why, to write a letter to any fictional character we were inspired by, and explain to them why.

I thought it was a stupid assignment and so, as I typically did to stupid assignments my English teacher gave us, I just blew it off and threw something together with as little effort as possible, doing only the minimum required.

So I wrote my letter to "Red Fish" of "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" fame. I don't remember exactly what I wrote, but I made myself chuckle one or two times.

At the end of the year, my teacher told me I had "sarcastic genius," or something to that extent.

*shrugs and walks away*

Our teacher Dutch once told half of a story and we were supposed to write the other half. The first half of the story was called "Surprise" and was about a guy who was coming home from a business trip and tried to call his wife, who didn't pick up the phone....

In my second half the guy rode through some portal to another dimension and caught up in a jungle... and then some more.

Some other students gave me compliments for it and the when the teacher told the class that some really had talent, he looked at me.
