Re: Christopher Reeves Dead
Nono, the fall of his horse wasn't fatal..... he died of a heart failure.
Maddox is trying to make a point though, a lot of people are selfish with stuff like this...

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead
Update: I still feel sad and disheartened by the news. Sometimes I wonder if I'm dreaming.

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead
Canyarion, thats not relaly the point... he used his celebrity to help a whole lot of people, yeah as Maddox said, he did it for selfish reasons, but it was his celebrity that really got the issue of spinal cord injuries on the preverbial map. Without his advocacy, I fear a lot of the research will not continue.

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead
I was definitely not affected by his death, but my parents seemed to care a bit, just because he was more in their generation or whatever. But even with that said, they didn't seem to care too much.
RIP man.

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead
The point Maddox is missing is that Christopher Reeve never pretended to be advocating various kinds of research for anything other than selfish reasons. He would have been the last person to deny it. But in any case, his work benefited a lot of people anyway. And I wonder what Maddox would have thought if Christopher Reeve hadn't done any of the advocacy work he did. "Christopher Reeve is such a bastard. He gets his neck broken and he still doesn't use his celebrity and fame to advocate stem cell research. I mean WTF!?"
The other point Maddox is missing is that many people admire Christopher Reeve's will to live. Yeah, he had the money to get all kinds of world class care. Do you think that mattered to him when he first found himself unable to move anything other than his head? I think a lot of people don't expect to ever benefit from spinal cord research, but it's still admirable that Reeve and his family could move on and it's sad that Reeve never did walk again even though he truly believed with all his heart that he would.
But hey, what do you expect from the puerile black-and-white world of Maddox?

Well sure, but some people do take him seriously.
Besides, I don't know about you, but I don't see much humor in calling someone who just broke his neck an ***hole.
Edit: Eh...isn't that word supposed to get censored out? Or have I just not noticed a change in policy?
