A few thoughts on "racism"...
So many of us depend on conflict to define ourselves.
Non-whites who feel the need to see themselves as victims of racism.
Whites who feel the need to see themselves, or aknowledge themselves as a racist.
To me, each is as "racist" as the other. When inside, maybe neither really is.
Why is there BET (Black Entertainment Television)? What kind of verbal outbreak would there be if someone established WET?
Racism, in an innocent form (lets face it, the thoughts of racism flow through our minds quite a bit...without the sensation of hatred towards a certain race) is present everywhere, all the time. Luckily, racism in its true form (Nazis, KKK, etc.) is quite rare.
Chinese people cant drive.
Whites are conceded, hatefilled @$$holes.
Black people like shooting each other.
Brown people are terrorists.
have I forgotten anyone?
Every time I hear someone seperate themselves from someone else based on their skin colour, I cringe...then I realize that I, myself, do the exact same thing.
We're prone to stereotype everywhere we go, everytime we open our eyes, everytime we listen. I think people are comfortable with stereotype. Amused by it. It's been watered down so much, that it has become second nature. Did I offend you? I shouldnt care if I did...I'm just a hatefilled @$$hole.
thoughts?

Locally, we have two radio stations whose call letters are WBLK and WHTT. I find no offense in anything anymore.

Re: A few thoughts on "racism"...
I'm not racist, but I'm definitely culturist. I've observed different patterns of behavior such as laziness and attitude problems within general groups of people. It has nothing to do with skin color and everything to do with culture/upbringing.

I once saw mexicans at the grocery store buying only rice, beans, and fajitas. That would be like me buying nothing but pizza and hamburgers.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. If there wasn't a connection, there would be no stereotype. The challenge is when to recognize the use of a stereotype as offensive and even illegal, such as racial profiling.

Re: A few thoughts on "racism"...
I hate it how black people (for the mostpart) think they are the only victim of rasism.
Like, think about the double standards.
Black people can make jokes about Mexicans/Spanish, and call them "Spiks" and whatnot, but if a white person des it its racist.
If a black guy and a white guy get in a fist fight, the black guy can file for racial crimes. The white cannot.
White people cannot call a black person a nigger, yet a Spanish person can.
And i hate PC (political correctness) You cant call someone black anymore. Now they are "coloured" or "african american"
Indians, are now "First Nations" or "Native Americans".
Retards are now "Mentally handicapped" or the ever popular "Special needs children".
Nobody is brown anymore either, they are all "of middle eastern decent" Its the pu**y-fi-cation of the world.
But back to the racial thing. As long as people keep seeing themselves as victims, nothing will change.
Also, i think it wont change, because sadly, Race sells products. The stories of racial prejudices sells music records and TV contracrs and movie deals. As long as they make these movies/TV and music, young kids will see or hear it, and be impresseioned to "hate the man" or "kill all niggers" or something stupid like that.
And one last question, when the hell did the word "Urban" directly refer to black people??!!?! Urban means a city, like, the downtown portion of a city.

Really? That's news to me. Seeing as how white is the minority in SoCal I know that anyone who calls a hispanic dude a spick or wetback will get hounded at. The only exception is if you are friends with each other.

A white dude can file for a hate crime just as much as a black dude can.

It's not that they can, it's just that they choose too. And it's usually Nigga not the N word. One reason I've heard from many people is that a lot of the hispanics from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and other nations feel that they are allowed to say that word because they are part (more than a white person) black due to the plantations being there between the 16th and 19th centuries.

Canada must be really ****ed up then. They're called Black. I call them black. They call themselves black. Teachers call them black.

I call them Natives just so I don't get em mixed up with many of my East Indian friends.

I always thought that Brown was directed at hispanics. It's probably just different there.

I have the same question because I have never heard a black dude been refered to as Urban.
-------------------------------------------------------
I joke around a lot about a persons race, ethnicity, physical features, or just their way of life because I can and they can too. Everyone I know well enough to actually say this **** to doesnt have a problem with it. I poke fun at my Scottish buddy wearing a kilt to school in first period then discuss whether or not my Hindu Vegiterian friend sits down to eat dinner with their rabbit in third. I'm always blurting out racist terms to my buddies (who are 80% mexican/guati/salvi/etc.) because it's funny to me and them. I always get mine back too. I don't have hate towards any race or ethnicities though. Well, except my own...

Re: A few thoughts on "racism"...
i hate racists....and i would consider someone a racist if they did any of these few things, *joking with friends dont count*....
1. call and insult a person by their color....ex: you're ** cuz ur **....
2. Treat a person differently and give less attention (dislike)to another because he or she is of a different race.
3. Feel superior to another person of a different race solely bcuz of skin color...
4. choose friends/ partners (in terms of eveyrthing) by their same race/ particular skin color....(if ur thinking...wtf?!...its like how a few asian-white-wannabes in australia only hit on white guys cuz they think its cool O.o (srry no offence white guys..k...that was a racial statement from me...but itd true how some asian girls here who go...eww but hes asian*..pfft)...and how north and south indianns dont get approval of marraige from their parents because of south indians being a darker brown...(to indians...the kasta system still applies)
i think only these things would make a person a racist....saying i only eat rice cuz im chinese doesnt mean that im a racist...it doesnt affect anything..and its just my personal culture...stereotyping only in a harmful way pisses me off...
but honestly...im a bit of a racist myself...ex: when i look for a job...i tend to only ask stores with white or western owners...chinese..thai...vietnamese...indonesian...etc...treat their workers like crap, pay nutz and steal ur tips...im serious...well from my experience at least...
....the white guy naturally rejects my application cuz i have a funny accent, im yellow...and chinese cant speak english lol me jokes me making funnys...white person isa good people

...
Somhow many people managed to steriotype racism. >_> Nice pointless thread. Hmm, what should I touch on.
1) Deathshand, that was funny. I was laughing my ass off.
2) And err, Stu, if there wasn't a need for BET, there wouldn't be one. MTV and VH1 simply don't play the music much, and no other stations show the movies. Unless you believe we should all give into white America's culture.
I like how MTV touches on a bit of everything, but other's can't stand MTV for that reason. :P

Re: A few thoughts on "racism"...
Well, everyone does have "racism" in them. For 6 years I lived in a small town of no more than 500, in Northern Ontario, not once did I see a black person in town, the only people who weren't white were Natives. And there was only a few of them. In fact I think I saw my first black person (aside from TV) when I was like 10.
Even the city I live in now is mostly white. It is by no means "multicultural". There's only 1 black kid at my school. No Indians/Hindus. Like 1 Chinese girl. That's about it, and a few Native kids.
So naturally I feel awakward when I'm around a lot of non whites like blacks, Indians, Chinese, etc... hell I'd feel awkward being around any large group of people if they were speaking anything other than English or French. I don't like being that way, but it happens. Oh well.

Re: A few thoughts on "racism"...
I have a question for anyone here who can enlighten me:
Alongside the typical sterotype jokes made in highschool, kids also joked about Jewish people a lot. They didn't joke about other religions though like Muslim or Christianity. Just the Jewish religion and people. It wasn't hateful it was all in jest just like the other ones mentioned here. My question is though, do the Jewish people and/or non-Jewish people consider Jews to be a separate race? It seems like it because they're joked about (at least here) like their a separate race from non-Jewish white people.
