Rome: Total War Impressions

EA Games has the release date as Sept. 22nd, but the developers will only say that the release will happen this Fall. If I were you I would pick up either Shogun: Total War or Medeival: Total war and give them a shot before buying Rome. These games are not everyone's cup of tea as the turn based "Risk" style resource and province management can be tedious and ruin the fun of the chaotic real time battles for some people.
